Hi All,

This is probably a bit of a Blond question:o, but I've not been able to find a clear answer elswhere...

I have just done my first oilchange with the truck, and I was paying particular attention to the oil pressure warning light when I first started it - as you would. It didn't come on at any time (even when the ignition was first turned on) though the oil pressure gauge shows about half at 1500 revs.

I checked for a blown lamp, but there wasn't one installed.

I swaped with a lamp known to be working - still no good.

My question, before I start looking for a dodgy pressure switch or damaged cable is... Should this LC have a red, oil pressure warning lamp?

See I said it was possibly a dumb question!

Cheers.

There is only a low oil level warning light .I think it is supposed to come when the ignition is switched to on.
Oil pressure and oil level are different things

The light is for oil level, should only come on when you loose roughly 2 litres of oil, although I have heard of really touchy sensors (not sure on the 79 but the 75 series sensor is in the sump) being affected by bumps in the road. Yes the light is supposed to be on with the key to ignition, the gauge runs off an electrical oil pressure sender unit just above the starter motor. The light should go away on start up. I currently have a problem with mine, (hzj75) after start up (roughly 15-20seconds) the light comes on and stays on, possibly a buggered sensor, haven't gotten enough money after paying bills etc to locate the problem as of yet

Thanks for the clarification Rosco and 1998hzj75.

The low oil level (orange indicator, right side of instrument cluster) seems to be working fine.

I must say I was slightly gobsmacked to learn that there is no low pressure warning light. Anyone else think it odd?

You shouldn't really need a light for it considering you have the gauge. However if you want more accuracy and a source of warning you can install a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Plumb up a t piece where your oil pressure gallery is ( your stock oil pressure sender unit will be there) and run a capillary line to the gauge. If you buy a gauge everything will be there although you may need a longer line. The thread will be 1/8th bspt I'm pretty sure, may be npt though. If you install one of these the gauge will read 22-26 psi on idle (700 rpm) and 70 psi at 3000 rpm (in neutral) then 36-38 psi at 3000 rpm in gear. Make sure your gauge reads accurately, lowering by 1 psi every now and then permanently Spells trouble for your engine. If you need more help with it feel free to inbox me

What year and model LC do you have Johan? Is it European or an import??
