Hi all I'm nearing the end of doing a spring over on my 75 series (pics of build soon) and I've just got a few questions on the caster I should run. I'm going to go for about 4 degrees but should I run about 1/2 a degree more on the left/passenger side to allow for the crown in the road so it tracks straight? Is this something most do when doing a cut and turn or is it not really worth it? Upon tear down of the swivel hubs i found it did have offset king pin bearing cups on the passenger side.:hhmm:

Did you perform a cut and turn as well?
If not, set your desired castor and the built in difference from side to side will be fine.
If you did a cut and turn, you would nedd to re-account for that small difference, but half a degree is, well half a degree. I wouldnt lose sleep over it.

Cheers

As far as castor split goes, the machine I used to use was in Minutes I was told, ours was a 60 minute machine, now they also come as 100 minutes now as well. A good WA machine will give you the tolerances to work with and usually set within those limits. Normally no nore than a 30 minute split is recomended.

I used to set most vehicles with a 15 minute split as well as a slight camber split as well to acount for the raod camber. But camber is not easily adjusted on a cruiser.

It really depends on how much the vehicle pulls now and also what the camber figures are to make a acurate recomendation.

thanks for your replys. yeah I set my pinion angle welded my perches on and ive cut and turned my knuckles but haven't welded them up yet just wanted to b sure of the caster split it wasn't split from factory but I assume because it had offset kingpin bearing cups on the left/pass side it needed it so I was thinking I could just turn the left/pass side to run a bit more positive caster so It would no longer need the offset bearing cup I don't want to have to do it twice. when you say minutes dabasscow is say 1/4 of a degree 15 minutes and 30 minutes 1/2 a degree and so on? I think it is a problem with the 70 series cruisers to pull left due to no caster split and the crown in the road.

Hi Nsalt, I am fairly sure that is correct, 15 minutes 1/4 degree.

ALthough may not be related to your particular case, tyres can also be the cause of pulling. I would swap tyres side to side on a vehicle that pulls before doing any adjustments to ensure it isn't a tyre issue.

Jeez thats worrying. After countless hours reading about SOA mods and cutting and turning and springing over both my Cruisers, this is the first I've heard of this passenger side caster difference :hhmm:

Jusut FYI I run 3.5+ caster on my set ups with 35's and they drive mint. No wondering etc

Did you end up going SR in the end or leave it be?
