There is a lot of misconception brewing in these posts. Do some reading on synthetics v. dino oils and then make an informed decision. The 15w40 diesel oils are a lot of bang for the buck but a high quality synthetic has excellent cleaning properties as well. Do the research and decide but there is some inaccacuracy in some of these statements. The only way to tell if an oil is owrn out is through analysis. I think that it is stupid personally to get oil analysis on a personal vehicle as it costs about the same to just change it. I personally use Redline gear oils and Delo 15w40 engine oil. The Redline would be way too expensive for someone who does a lot of fording. There is not much of an advantage over the delo or delvac oils provided by synthetic unless you are in a cold environment. Also check out Penz LL 15w40. For a 10w30 the Chevron is hard to beat for the quality and the cost. But, this is a highly volatile subject and everyone needs to decide for themselves as really oil is so much better than it used to be that you can use anything pretty much and be just fine.
