My 4.5 v8 diesel does sometimes hunt for geares but I noticed it is only below 60 or if you want to go from 50 to 80 on short bursts. I tried cruising at 80 mph. After the cruise is set it doesn't move beyond 1750 rpm even on highway elevations. I never used manual gears on highways but if I drive without cruise, I have to look for the sweet spot between 55 mph and 65 mph when rpm settles to 1400-1500 rpm and just stay at that foot pressure and the car looks after the rest. It doesn't change rpm even if there is an incline or speed increased +5 mph
Its active driving with LC as I constantly monitor rpm, sweet spot, either set cruise or keep my leg at that position. It feels like the Avatar horse where we have to connect with the car.

Offically, unsure. If the attempt is to prove Toyota doesn't state this, you're probably right.

How many 5.7L out there have big miles in the Tundra, Sequoia, and LCs? A few even hit 1,000,000 and in some cases, Toyota even bought them a new truck:

However, I personally know of 3 80's series over 300k, quite a few Tacomas and 4Runners in the 200k + range, and there's plenty of active 100 and 200 users on these very forms in the 200k + range.

According to consumer reports, most vehicles are built for 8-12 years or 150,00 miles of service, and Land Cruisers are boasted to be built twice as well.

I've got a TX to MA road trip beginning next week so I'll be able to report back with some better 8 speed info. 5 people, lots of luggage and a Thule XXL box on the roof. We will be sagging for sure in the rear.
First leg of the trip went surprisingly well, so I bow to the cruiser gods with apologies. Drove from Dallas to Cape Cod with an extra 800-1000 pounds of gear and people, including a fully loaded Thule xxl roof box. Cruise set on 76 and only in the TN mountains did I get into the crazy annoying downshifting.

Not surprisingly, the truck was super quiet and comfortable to drive.
