taco zone valves...

i have a well-mcclain...or however it spelt LOL with 2 taco zone valves...upstairs is a gold colored one...basement valve is green.

i was not getting water to travel to basebords in the basement...i used the manual lever on the side and now have heat in the basement...does this mean i need to replace the valve? or is it a wire issue...

the house is new to me...and its the first time i am trying the heat out in the basement...it doesnt look as if the wires are loose or corroded or fried.

a neibore said to just twist it off and replace it...and another neihbor said that this will fry the transformer? how hard is it? and does it even need to be replaced?

thanks in advance

Turn the basement thermostat all the way up. Check for 24v AC at the basement zone valve. If you've got voltage at the valve, then the valve is stuck (likely) or the actuator is bad (also possible). If you don't have 24v at the valve you have a thermostat issue.

Replacing the valve is not hard if you are somewhat mechanically inclined.
