I am an 80 series owner looking to upgrade/downgrade to a 100 series. I have been thinking about making the switch for a couple years and seriously thinking about it for a year. I am aware of the major differences between 80 and 100 series performance. My 80 is on 37"s, 5.29's, fully armored and has been beaten on trails from CA, NV, UT, and TX. I now have a 1 year old little girl, and another baby due in just a few weeks. I think my "hardcore" wheeling is over for a while. I want something that will fit 2 car seats and be friendly to drive for me, and importantly, my wife.

I am currently looking to buy this 100 from a mud member For Sale: - 2000 100 Series Appleton WI $9500 and I just want to make sure I am asking the right questions. Seller seems to be a great guy and very honest, which is why I love buying from mud members.

Thanks for any help/advice.

Close to 300k miles.
Has been in an accident.
Has been modified. Maybe it's to your liking?
$9500

I bought my '98 not too long ago.
94k miles.
No accidents.
Stock.
Long list of maintenance by Lexus.
$10.5k

No offense to the seller. Mud Member.
I would wait for something mo' betta.

My $.02.

Cough. Cough. Keep the 80 and congrats on the new bambino:cheers:

I'd want to see some decent pictures of under the hood and of the underside.

When we were looking for a 100 series Land Cruiser for my son, we ran across one at a local dealer that had spent a portion of its life in WI. It had a whole lot more corrosion on the underside and in the engine compartment than I am accustomed to on a Texas vehicle. I don't know if what we saw was typical of a vehicle that has spent part of its life in that part of the country, but I'd be hesitant without at least seeing some pictures of those areas.

Looks like we're neighbors - we're in the San Antonio area as well. Here's my opinion, for what it's worth. Like you, I have young children and a wife to consider in my vehicle purchases. We upgraded from an 80 Series to a 1999 100 Series (an LX). It was a major improvement in on-road comfort. Three weeks ago, our LX was heavily damaged by an 18-wheeler in a parking lot, so we decided to upgrade again. This time we bought a 2005 LC, and we LOVE it. For our use, it's a step up from the 1999 for a couple of reasons, the most important of which is the optional side air bags for front and middle row occupants. Given the lousy drivers we have in San Antonio, that was something my wife was very concerned about, and rightly so. My suggestion is to look for an '03+ with the optional side air bags since you're likely to be carting around kids through San Antonio. Regardless, good luck with the search! -- Matt

Definitely need more underside pics

I am 1.5 hours from Appleton. You are in the land of rust free vehicles and looking in rust central.

Price comparisons: I recently bought a 2000 stock same color combo rust free cream puff in Vegas for his asking price 224k.

Recently Sold my rusty wi 99 203k for $5200

Some of his mods are pricey retail but not sure how much weight you give those as a buyer.

I would think a bone stock 100 with that many miles would be $7500 assuming minimal rust.

I know of a green 2000 with a hair under 300k but well maintained in Houston for 8k.

I have a nice lifetime texas 2000 model year with just over 300k miles available. Its green. My dad just purchased a LX570 so we are selling his.

Well maintained, body is straight, front seats could be recovered but no tears.

Like Duc said, $8,000

Due for a timing belt at around 340k miles, uses and leaks no oil.
Long list of maint items we have done over the years.
100k miles have been put on it in the last 2 years.

I have a 98 with 250k miles and still going strong.

Ours is a 2005 LX; LATCH is only on the middle & drivers side of the middle row...kind of a pain as the kids are right next to each other plus the hassle of getting to the middle seat for my wife, though if you're tall it's easy! We recently had people in town and did put a 3rd seat in the middle row behind the passenger and it worked fine without the LATCH.

Will also add that both general rear facing & infant "bucket" style child seats pretty much have to go in the middle seat as there is no way I could drive or ride shotgun with one directly behind me. I'm 6'1.

It's good to see people concerned about the safety of their children. When I was growing up cars did not even have seat belts and the kids hung out the windows as dad drove down the street. I use to complain about my dad smoking an flipping ashes out his window into my face. He told me to shut up and be thankful he did not chew Tobacco. :)

One of the cool/not cool features of the LC/LX is that the kids sit much higher in the middle row seats due to the car seat. This is cool because they have a clear view of of all the windows except the ones behind them. This kind of bugs me because it always seemed to me that my kid's legs were always stricking the window. My OCD would kick in and then I would imagine them either breaking the window or knocking it off the rails.

Yeah it's kind of a bummer that these vehicles did not come equipped with the latch system. The seat belts have to be pulled all the way out to activate the "locking" mechanism. I always secure the rear belt on the baby seat to something in the rear space of the truck (3rd row) for added security.

Yeah it's kind of a bummer that these vehicles did not come equipped with the latch system.

1998-2000 did not, but I'm pretty sure it was added in 2001+

(I know my son's 2000 does not have LATCH, and know my 2006 does have it)

My wife was concerned about the lack of tether anchors in the 2000 LC. Somehow Toyota missed a model year with the LC when the law mandated it in 2000. The tether anchors allow you to tether a forward facing carseat (an important safety feature to reduce head excursion in an accident).

My wife looked up the user manuals for the 2000, 2001, and 2002 Land Cruisers when we were looking to make sure whatever we got had at least one tether anchor. She thinks that the 2001 has tether anchors in the middle row and LATCH in one seating position (middle row drivers side). The 2002 has tether anchors in the middle row and 2 seating positions with LATCH (middle row drivers side and the seat right next to it).

The LATCH makes it convenient to install a carseat, but it is not safer to install with LATCH over a seatbelt.

Agree with above that LATCH is not any safer than a car seat installed correctly with a seatbelt. If you do not know what the proper way is ask a local FD,PD Childrens Hosp and they will point you in the right direction or visit www.safekids.org. Now back to the LC. I would be extremely careful buying from WI. I just picked up an 05 from Iowa due to the fact I could not find a non rust one local (not that Iowa doesn't use salt). We use a ton of salt from about now till March or later in this state. There are vehicles here that people do take care of and can be rust limited. With being down south I would just shop that area as prices and vehicle condition seemed to be better when I was looking.
