I have a fj73 with a 3f and a440 trans and as far as I can tell the engine and trans have never been replaced/rebuilt. I got a cracked head a while back and the head bolts were so tight rusted in ect that it was a miracle I got them loose. I am assuming the head had never been removed. I have never seen head bolts this stubborn.
I ended up putting a 2f head on it because I was desperate, but it seems to run fine even with the larger combustion area.

Ok the truck has done 550,000 kms. It doesn't burn a drop of oil and the trans changes perfectly.
Is this even possible for a 3f/a440 combo? I don't know the history of this truck.
I am in western vic australia.
Btw the truck looks identical to the silver bullet posted here a couple of years back.

cheers pithicus

Welcome pithicus
Mate its normal for these old girls to clock up huge milage if there serviced regularly they will last a life time.
I bet the speedo clocked over a few times. :)

I love my fj73. When I first got it the trans fluid was a bit icky. Did a drain and refill 4 times over a month . Put a reluctor type distributor on it , changed the head , and all good. Looking forward to the next half million k's.

Forgot to add. I did a search for examples of 2f heads bolting to 3f blocks and found very little info. Maybe because it's not desirable.
For those wanting to do this, a mid 70's early 2f head fits. And the 3f manifold bolts on ok although there are less bolt holes in the 2f head.
The combustion chambers are larger in the 2f head, but I can't tell any power decrease. Ideally the 2f head could be machined to match the 3f compression?. Not sure about valve/piston clearance once machined.
cheers.
