I am new here and thought I would drop a line and introduce myself
I found this site by a google search in regards to my nephews (new to him) 2000 Lexus LX470. His passenger door is locked shut from both inside and outside and found this great community!! From just looking around on this site I have found some very useful information, intriguing MODS, maintenance priorities, as well as some damn good arguments to go with a Toyota 4x4 over any other truck out there.
For a few years now my wife and I have been saving a little bit of money every year to eventually purchase an off road vehicle. We have no extreme off road experience and always thought that a Jeep Wrangler would be the best fit for the both of us. Well, after reading a lot of the threads on here and watching a ton of youtube videos I have been swayed. With the comforts of the interior the, power to weight ratio, the world famous land cruiser is now in my sights
In the past i have owned a few 4x4's an 85' Ford Bronco, '93 Chevy S-10 Tahoe Blazer, and lastly a 99' Chevy 1500 Z71
The Bronco first belonged to my parents and is what I learned to drive stick in....when I was 13. It was a Bureau of Land Management trade in and was as bare to the bones as one could get. Great for off road but sucked major
on the highway. The clutch on that thing was a pain in the butt! after a while we need the $$ and sold it to purchase a more reliable truck
the Chevy Blazer I shared with my brother for a short bit, it got us where we needed to go, to school and back. The first time we had it out in Barstow for my family's annual shooting trip we decided to see what the truck was made of. From the very begging as a novice off road adventure it felt as if the vehicle weight to power ratio was severely lacking and after that trip I couldn't wash my hands of the Blazer fast enough.
my Chevy 1500 Z71 was a blast!!! I loved this truck! but with the slowing economy and getting laid off I had to sell the truck to purchase A 1 ton Van for work
it was a sad day.
So now for the first time in my life I have been without a 4 wheel Drive Vehicle. It Just so happens this past week I had a job that put me up in Big Bear, CA for a week, and now I have a major itch to get back out on the trails of So. Cal.
I hope this is an ok place to introduce myself and I am looking forward to many a hours of lurking and discussions on ih8mud
