How to wire a home-brew CDL switch.

Alrighty. I just dove into my dash and did this, works with the hazard switch and without messing with pin 7.

Only issue I had is the harness is too short to make it above the center dash vents where my hazard was.

I was forced to put it next to the ECT switch which looks bad as the rectangular hazard switch does not fill the curved opening. Is there a larger curved ECT. Rear Window Defog type CDL switch that will fill the opening?

My plan was to order a CDL switch and hope I did not need the hazard (which is where I am) until I got it but now I see I need a different solution.

Thanks

could you take that 4 runner switch you have and put the button face on the hazzard switch? I haven't looked at one to see, but a lot of switches have interchangable parts. especially if they are as similar as it sounds.

The wires are long enough for you to install the new CDL-hazard switch next to the rear heater switch.

Not on mine. I just finished splicing a foot of wire into it's wires and it now resides where the rear heater switch was. I am using the two holes next to it to hold my Sirius so for the moment I have the rear heater switch dangling, I doubt I'll ever use it so I'll either remove it or more likely figure a way to put it back as I like things as close to "correct" as possible.

Is there a max speed in high with it engaged?

Thanks

horrible focus, but, you can see on the left there is a groove, on the right, the grove is blocked, just need to cut it out a little.

I got lucky - saw this thread today, and this evening, my junk yard a/c control shows up, complete with whole center dash - hazzard switch, ect. So, I take your $5 and beat you by $5.

I took the security light thing next to the hazzards, and put it there. Mine didn't have enough wire to go to the bottom either. But the security light thing did - so that's where it is now.... all looks like it belongs.

Nice thing is, A/C control works now, and 3.5 month old son, actually slept just long enough for me to put it all back in.

Now he's hungry..... where's that breast milk?

I did not have to cut anything, I used the plug that came out of the CDL connector and have directionals. (I had none until I put it in)

Next stop: PIN 7!

Pin 7 done!, werkin as advertised. Looks like I'll have a big curved ECTlike CDL switch waiting for me in Laredo, and all is well. I like getting mods for the time it takes to do 'em!

Anyone know the max safe speed in high with the CDL locked? I searched and found a gazillion threads/posts but none containing this data. (although I answered questions I did not know I had) :)

Thanks, MUD!

I moved the antenna switch to the bottom row (opened up the harness a bit to get more length), moved the emergency flasher to the right of it's original position and put the CDL switch just to the left of the e-flasher.
