1) remove steel cable
2) remove steel roller fairlead
3) attach aluminum hawse fairlead
4) attach synthetic line (from Southeast Overland :smile with spade connector or tape
5) spool synthetic line on under load = a least 5% minimum line break strength

If it's not a brand new winch, the drum may need to be smoothed, too. Any little burrs will eventually shred your expensive new line.
