Worth it to get it from CDan, it's not much $$.

Get under the front and you'll find an access hole in the skidplate. This hole gives you access to the belt tensioner bolt. You have to loosen the pulley bolt first, and then loosen the tensioner. Once the belt is loose, pop it off, pop the new one back on, and tighten everything back up. HAHA, if only it was that easy. Do a search for a thread by me from a couple weeks ago about changing the belts, there were a couple good hints posted.

I guess I should mention that the process really is that easy, but the "simple" steps can induce ungentlemanly like language bursts ;)

Dunno about the others who have read this and not answered, but I have a problem with asking Dan a question, then asking if you should simply blow him off and buy it somewhere local. Ummmmm...

Doug, I don't know how Dan feels about it, but I think it's a reasonable question. Dan has always been very honest with me, and I guess IMO sometimes the generic store brand piece is adequate at the cheaper rate. I don't think he was suggesting that he "blow Dan off," but rather asking Dan's opinion on whether the toyota piece was worth the money/time/hassle(yeah right, like ordering something and having it show up on your doorstep is a hassle compared to going to the parts store and dealing w/ the monkey's behind the counter) of ordering it over the phone as opposed to just running to the store and getting the part.

i didnt mean to "blow off dan" i have bouts tons of stuff from dan but when i do i usuly buy several things at once which to me makes sense when shipping things. i was simply asking becasue at the local steaer there asking like $14 which is not horrible and in the long run may be cheaper then buying one from dan paying shipping and waiting for it. although his waits are usuly very short. Dan gets 98% of my buisness the other 2 is when im in a pinch and have to splurge for the parts to get home.

Gotcha - my bad. Dan's a real asset to the LC community.

Maybe it would be better if you have pics where exactly the bolts need to be loose.. all the drive belts maybe.. ?

Thanks

Sorry Mike, I don't have any pics to share right now. Do you have a FSM or a Chiltons/Haynes manual? If so, they should provide some decent instructions.

I used my FSM when I replaced my AC belt. It was pretty straight-forward. One thing I did that's different from what Ary suggested is that I removed the skid plate rather than try to fight getting the angle correct through the access hole to the tensioning nut.

It wasn't difficult at all.

I haven't done the other belts yet...

I get the feeling that Dan isn't really into quoting prices, or for that matter running price comparisons over the forum.

With Dan's discount plus shipping cost, I think if you run the math, you're going to see that it's really nickel and diming here for an order this small. It really boils down to... do you need it now and want to go get it yourself, or... do you want to wait a couple of days and pick it up off your door step.

BTW, since the AC belt has shreaded, you should also consider replacing the two alt belts. The costs are just to small to be running around with shabby belts.

I called Dan on Monday and put an order in for the alt/fan and ac belts along with some gaskets, and a fog lens. Even though he was having a hectic day at the dealership, he still had time enough to stay on the phone w/me and look up the fog lens in the catalog. Also answered a few questions on what gaskets i needed for my birf job and even troubleshooted a few ideas to me.

Maybe small orders arent really worth it if you are in the middle of a repair. But gathering parts for an upcoming project will be worth alot of savings.

i dont mean to sound like an ass but i dont think this is really about wheather dan is good to go to or not. we all know hes the best of the best. There is no doubt in my mind if i need a part i call him. but as said before it was a facotr of time and well a few nickles.

sorry
mike
