How to make an avatar

I'm not a computer whiz, but I didn't think it would be so hard. I have been trying to shrink down an image to use as my avatar. It's only a 3"x5" image, but by the time I shrink it, it looks like hell. Any suggestions?
everytime I try to upload anything for my avatar, I get the "file to large Bozo" pop up.

Doesn't it have to be 100x100 and less than 20kb ?


Not sure how many posts you need before you are allowed an avatar though ...

In my case after ten posts my option to add an avatar was enabled.

When you re-size the image try to use as little jpeg compression as possible to get the correct file size and resolution. I used a free download from Google called "Picasa" that worked pretty good.

Picasa, I'm going to check that out. I've had ne luck resizing on my own, not to that small anyway(100pix x 100pix). Thanks
