Hello all, i would like to lock the torque converter of my kzj78 manually. I'm thinking to conect externally the solenoid with relay, diode and switch, but i don't know the wire of it and the voltage of work. Anyone has information about it? I'm thinking to buy a kit for reconfiguration from Transgo because it's slippery much between speeds and taking fuel for nothing.what do you think about this kit? Thanks

Hi yah. I manualised my auto and here is the file of how it did it. manualisation.pdf
With the information you can see how I took manual control of the torque converter lockup.
It shows the ecu pinout (SL). Putting 12v on that line will activate the lock up. (Don't need diode if you use a 3 pole switch which cuts it off from ECU and applies 12v.)
You will get an ECU error message / flashing OD light as the ECU can't see the solenoid...
But be warned, if you plan to use the lockup for down hill runs the friction lining in the torque converter can fail... Its not very big and not designed to take loads in that manner.....
Also if you lock it up in too low a gear and floor it..... Again it could fail.... Its designed to come in at cruise speeds with low torque.... And drop out when you floor it....
I also have a Transgo kit in mine for quicker more solid shifts.... Works great.... But it really slams into gear.
Also I have overhauled the Torque converter and had the stall lowered... This hasn't been tested on road yet, truck in bits. But should allow it to bite lower in the revs.

Hello Kbushnz, thank you so much for the info, that schematic is very good. Good work! i'm going to try to make it next weekend. Have you connected a secuential system too in your automatic transmission?
Do you have whatsapp? Jejeje if i have some problem i would like to ask you...
:)

I haven't done a sequential system yet.... basically lever in 1 gets 1st, 2 gets 2nd and D gets 3rd. Then OD button on gets 4th.... and separate switch for TC. I only really use this way for off road, can do 2nd or 3rd gear starts.... Also locks the auto a bit and you get better engine braking.
I am planning to do a second mod and use a rotary switch for round town driving which when in D I can turn to change gears from 1st to 4th. I will make it look like a lever... (just like the ecu does)

Do you know if is possible to conect a resistance in wire SL for to make ECU to see the solenoid when you lock up manually the torque converter?

I would like to control manually in town too. The problem is to climb soft hills or streets. The engine is always working up to 2.000rpm and wasting fuel for nothing. This engine has much torque but you don't work with it much.

Yes you can wire in a resistor....
Thats the problem with auto's... they slip.... that's why I have a had the torque converter adjusted for a lower stall....
Personally I think you are asking for trouble playing with the torque converter lock this way....
Have a play and let us all know how you get on.....
