How to increase mailbox size?

I'm a member of a lot of forums running on the same software as IH8MUD.com is, and I've never been limited to 5 messages in my entire mailbox! Why is that done here when it's still a relatively small community and is there ANY way to get my mailbox limit increased to something more reasonable?

that cute star next to your name gives you a BIG mailbox...

users with less than 10 posts are VERY limited...keeps the trolls from PM'ing the normal folk....
