Wondering what you guys recommend to determine if timing belt has been done? Just picked up a super clean 2006 last night, paid more than I should, but I'm really excited about it as it has full service history on Carfax. Unfortunately, bought through dealer that has no proof that tbelt has been done but the folks who traded it in said "we spent about $1500 at a Toyota dealer around 100k but don't have the receipt". Obviously that's not good enough for me. There is no sticker in any obvious place (I don't even know if the Toyota kits come with a sticker?).

How do you guys recommend I check it out... just tear into the front? Are there any reassembly seals I should order first?

if it was done at a toyota dealer call them with your vin and ask if it was replaced at the last service.

Thought about that but second owner has no history of visits to a dealer (at least on the Carfax). I may result to calling all the local area Toyota dealers as I know the truck was local based on the service history (Valvoline Instant :()

Well I've called almost all of the local dealers. They have no history of the vehicle and say there is nothing in the national database (although I don't know how accurate that listing is). Ugh...

Where is the change sticker normally placed? Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right place?

The sticker is on top of the camshaft pulley cover on the drivers side in the front of the engine (normally).

You can also create an account at the Toyota Owner's site and type in your VIN and get a dealer service history.

Made the account, nothing past 64K recorded. Pulled engine cover and no sticker. Ugh so frustrated. Front cover bolts don't look like they've been accessed (not really rounded off or scratched from socket). Oh well I kinda knew that going into it.

Oh well, at least you'll know for sure, after you replace it. Sounds like a nice truck and worth a complete PM. No worries on the lack of records. Mine would show no service after 58,000 miles because I've done it all myself.

Thanks for trying to make me feel better haha! Like I said, I paid more than I should have because that's what the local market supports right now. But it is a VERY clean truck (not a spot of rust) and only has 131K. So I'll get a good 7 years out of before even nearing 200K and I'll own maintenance from here on out. It's a bummer I'm out ~$500 right at the outset but it is not a huge deal for peace of mind.

A bit over 23K... 2006. A little over 131k on the clock. No body damage, no accidents, 5000-mi service intervals recorded by Carfax, regular fluid services on diffs and trans/transfer, and it is CLEAN. No rust whatsoever. I drained the coolant today to do the tbelt and it was super clean, no sediment or particles of any kind... looks like new antifreeze, but I know it has about 20k mi on it.

So overall, I'm pretty happy with it, just annoyed I have to do a tbelt right out of the gate, but I kinda knew that getting into it. At least I'll know it's done right.
