How remove u joints

I only remove U joints when they are bad. If they are toast, open the jaws of a vice just enough so that the yoke fits in there vertically, with the flange resting on the jaws of the vice. AFTER removing the circlips, hit the yoke with a hammer, this will drive the top cup out. Flip the DS over, and repeat on the other side. Pull the U joint and all is good.

Using a flame can easily melt the plastic seals in a Ujoint.

LMAO.... Thought the same thing. He does raise a good point or two (I think).

However, I think a bit of heat is fine but keep it below 500 degrees. If it starts to glow orange stop. A little thermal imbalance is all you want between the yoke and cup to help free things up during disassembly.

I wouldn't heat anything up for installation though. If the yoke is hot or even warm it is more likely to compress as the cups are pressed in. Which isn't good. Small taps with a hammer can coax the yoke back up the cup while in a press or vice.

They key with U joints is to be as gentle as possible using the correct techniques rather than the brute force approach.
how mant driveshafts do you build a daqy i build about 8 to 10

I had a Chevy pickup one time that gave me hell when I tried to change the ujoints. I tried a 5lb sledge, massive prybar, various combos of curse words and throwing things, heat, etc and I couldn't even get the dang drive shaft off. I finally had enough and told my buddy to back up, hopped in the truck, revved it up to about 4500rpms and threw it in gear. Probably one of the dumber things I've ever done, no idea how I didn't tear all kinds of stuff up----but the damn ujoint came loose!

Funny thing, the fastest way to lose credibility is to start bragging about how much you do things.

Just a FYI.

BTW, I agree with you, heat and Driveshafts is unnecessary and potentially bad..
