How much would I loose if I sold my 80?

I do not ever drive my 80 anymore and even for fun, 11mpg is not practical. Realistically, what is a fair price for my truck?

1997 40th, 120k, immaculate, all three lockers, lifted, huge tires, bumpers, sub tank, winch, dual batteries, etc. etc. It impresses anyone who rides in it, on and off road. Reference the registry thread, page 3 for more info.

I don't know if I would really sell the 80 since I always said I would not but things change. I think for the right price I would not regret it too much but I don't know what a right price is anymore for these trucks. Obviously I understand what I paid and the cost of my add-ons will never be made back. Thanks for the input, is this chat? Admins move it if need be.

Thanks!
Benjamin

The best ones I tend to see fall around $10k I'm my area now. Yours has below average mileage, but on the open market the mods wont fetch much if anything over a stock truck. Your best bet is to find an enthusiast who wants the mods. Try the classifieds here?

WTF! Are you serious? I am guessing you will regret this in the future.:bang:

11 mpg seems bad until you price the replacement for your 80. Then the $35k you would spend on the new car, makes the 80 seem cheap. If you don't get other takers, I'll give you $5k for it, my kids could use a nice 80 series.

You'll loose everything, your soul will be worthless.

^^^^ lol.

Being realistic with my evaluation of simply seeing the outside and assuming an "Excellent" mechanical condition, I would expect to pay no less than $10,000.00 in today's economical climate. Three years ago, I would imagine a price tag of about $13K.

In fact, if I had $10K to spend on a vehicle, I would buy this one and would not haggle the price - so long as it is in excellent mechanical condition.

I would, however, like to see more of this one.

Thanks for some of the input. Every few years I go through the idea of selling the 80 but now it's serious. I have three other luxury German cars that I enjoy much more and could use the garage space.

I guess like everything it just depends on the buyer. Speaking of which, please DO NOT send me pm's or email's inquiring about the 80. The truck is NOT for sale at this time.

Should I price out other comparable condition 80's with similar miles and figure in the cost of my add ons at a discount to get a better idea of a selling price? Or is it that the market is pretty much capped at "X" amount?

I think that people's wallets are capped at a much lower amount, really. If you were to sell, it is a buyer's market, not a seller's market.

were you the one that drove from TX to Torrance for the 50th anniversary? I saw your truck and it's worth a lot more than $10K

Don't ask other people what the right price is. Figure what you can live with selling and let the right buyer come along.

It is beautiful.

I give you a dollar for it, but that offer is only good for today. And you have to deliver it to Houston. Thanks for your business, come back soon.

..

The depressed economy has made a lot more people give greater emphasis to practicality in their automotive choices. That said, there is a small percentage of enthusiasts still out there who would definitely be interested in buying your truck for the right price, whatever that may be. Blue book, with no addition for the lift and tires, couldn't be argued with. If it's also re geared, than you would have reason to add on, IMO.

You're asking the wrong people for price estimates. :) From reading this board you get the sense that 80s sell for next to nothing and ARB bars grow on trees. :)

The reality is that 80s sell for all sorts of prices, and the cheap prices are generally for vehicles with >150k miles.

I bought my 80 for $10k in December. It has 109k miles, and dealer serviced (when the PO felt up to getting it serviced :P). It's actually too nice for what I wanted, but I was sick of looking for the 'right' 80, my wife was sick of me being online & travelling to look at 80s, the one I bought was just down the street so I saved a bit of cash not having to drive it two thousand miles....

I'd easily pay $12-13k for your vehicle, and it's probably "worth" more than that. I've already dumped ~$2k in maintenance items for my truck, and for all extensive purposes it's still stock.

Last fall a 40th aniversary 80 w/ low miles in decent condition (no lockers) sold for ~$12k on ebay. Providing the buyer wasn't the seller themselves. To me, I was a bit surprised that it went for that high. However there are people who will pay a pretty penny for a decent 80.

If you're in no rush, the right buyer will come around and pick it up for >$10k...

Price is so subjective...

IMO, take KBB for your 80 with your mileage and condition. Add up the fair market value of all the mods you've done and take 1/2 of that total and add it to the KBB value and see what you come up with. Would you sell your 80 for that? If so, post it up for sale at that price and see what happens. If all of the PM is up to date and the new owner would only need to get in and drive, I'd think it would sell pretty quick...

Some people getting into 80's don't realize how quickly the $$ can add up getting the truck PM up to date and then modding a low mileage, stock 80 :) - I imagine there are plenty of people out there looking for an 80 that would rather drop $12-15K on a low mileage locked 80 that is already built up than drop $8k on a low mileage stock 80 and turn around and spend $10k modding it. PM, lift, tires, gearing, sliders, bumpers, winch, etc. can add up REAL quick.

You lose your soul. What is that worth to you?

Ah finally a honest answer. ;)

KBB for any car older than 5yrs is a crap shoot and at 13 yrs, forget it. I'm in the car business and hate the KBB, NADA, etc reference. All they are good for is "trade in" value as a refection of whole sale auction values.

I'm still stewing on this. I'll let you guys know in the very near future if it will be up for sale.

Thanks

Don't sell your 80! You just need a bigger garage or move. That's what I did.

Bought mine three years ago. '96 LX450 Factory Locked, stock. 102,000 miles from a local dealer. Compared 5 for sale in the local area. Picked this one up for $13,000. The others had 132K and no lockers for about $11-12,000. Trade you straight up for yours. This will save you the headache of keeping yours. Mine gets much better fuel mileage with the awesome factory street tires.
