How Much should I pay for Powder Coat

Hey,

Who much should i be paying for powder coat a frame?. I am working on a FJ40 and don't know what to budget. Thanks

it will probably be around $600 bucks.. make sure they actually do a good job sandblasting it and make sure they use a zinc chromate primer (i think that is what is called) before they powdercoat it - this is an important step that many powdercoaters overlook for serious rust prevention

I had mine done in Pelion, SC. I paid $375 for blasting and powder coat.

Thanks. I am going to see if i can find somebody around. I have to take it there i guess i have to see is the drive is worth it. but that is a good price for it.

I would think twice about powdercoating a frame. If it gets chipped , the touch up is a PITA. Maybe blast it, prime and paint it yourself. You already are blasting it. Being in SC you should be able to source some kick ass marine coatings for that frame. US Paint comes to mind.

Did quite a few lake yachts with there paint systems. And I live in Wi, and they are still not rusty.

Not saying powder doesn't last. I would powder coat things like seat brackets, air filter assembly etc. The frame will last with powder no doubt. But if you painted it yourself, you can always touch up knicks and chips.

after powdercoating my current frame I dont' think I will powdercoat a frame again.. unless its a hot rod never to be driven restoration .. for a landcruiser or a truck I'm going to use paint from now on

1. they screwed up in a few places so its peeling
2. i scratched it a bit with jack stands.. hard to touch up
3. they didn't really get in all the cracks and hard to reach areas that I could have with paint.

once its powdercoated its powdercoated... you can't go back and fix things.. add powersteering etc.

if you do get it powdercoated i can't stress enough they should be doing a zinc primer underneath

I am glad i asked. I was set on powder coat. I thought it was a dum question but i had to ask

did i mention its going to be cheaper and less hassle aka having your friend bring his full size truck.. drive 30 min to the place.. have to do the same thing when you pick it up except bringing tons of towels and blackets so it doesn't get scratched.. but it will eventually anyways! haha
