While I am in the 2f and replacing a bunch of other crap. I would like to replace the rusty PS cooling lines. I have a Auto tranny cooler laying around and was wondering if it would handle the pressure of the PS lines and how well it would work.

thanks,

Return line is very low in the pressure dept.

Tranny cooler is what I have on my steering setup.. works great..

An untweaked pump will put out a bit less than 1500psi. 1300 is nominal IIRC.

Cooler goes on the return line amyway. Very low pressure there.

Not to hijack Al, but since the answer was given and this kinda relates...

Aftermarket radiators have built-in tranny coolers.

Though it's convenient, I had nixed the idea of running PS fluid through that area because of heat conduction coming from the coolant.

What's the upper temp limit of PS fluid, and is there any benefit of regulating the temp on the cold end?

FWIW, I had a power steering hose (steel hose running under radiator) leak in my 62. I don't know if it is the low side or the high, but I clamped up a section of fuel line hose where the brackets worn down the metal hose. It has held together this summer and still,so far, this winter . The spliced fuel line section is over 9 inches long. I think the burst pressure of the replacement hose was over 800 psi, IIRC.

ATF and PS fluid are very similar (and sometimes can be used interchangeably) so I would imagine that normal operating tems for a tranny are okay to do to a PS pump. Most of the time your pump does not make that much heat. But off road, it can be a big deal..

In the radiator coolers are not a bad idea at all. The small tranny coolers work great for PS though.. So it might be over kill. My suggestion is to get an auto and use the available spots in the radiator ;)

I hate posting a lot of questions so I am just posting this here in hopes that someone in the know posts up.

Does anyone know the website on where to get the after market vac hoses for cheap and I think I need somewhere around 30 ft for the 2f...So anyone off hand know the website?

Am I missing something here? Is the question both lines or just one? Am I correct that there a 2 ps lines? A high and low pressure line? When the high pressure line blew on my tuck I had to get it from Toyota and it was like 90 bills.
