How much boost on 2001 Supercharged 4runner

MY 2001 4runner only hits about 5 to 6 psi of boost. If there was a way to get more, how much more would be safe on that 3.4L v6 engine.

Does anyone know of supercharger performance kits, I dont even know if such a thing exhists.

Sure you can increase the boost but with stock fuel system even the supplied boost over taxes the motor. I wouldn't run a supercharger without at least the 7th injector setup but more preferably the complete fuel upgrade kit sold here: http://www.urdusa.com/

I can tell you it was dealer installed and its a black (4th gen blower ). I remember hearing that the 7th injector was placed somewhere in the intake, i looked and found nothing.

Are there stroker kits for that engine, or some kind of internal upgrades out there?

its a four wheel drive, its not meant to be a quarter mile car, take it easy- no, no stroker kits that I know of. are you really dissapointed in the power?

I can bet you money you will never be in an offroad situation and say "man if I wouldve had more boost I couldve climbed/driven thru/gone over/gone up that obstacle"

TRD made these only boost 5-6 pounds for a reason... go beyond those parameters and yes you will brake things, from tranny to tranfer case to rear ends and ujoints.

The 7th injector doesnt boost your power but more so is there to reduce under fueling at WOT

Don't waist your money on the 7th injector. If you had it there will be a fuel hose coming off your fuel rail to an injector on the S/C just behind the throttle body toward your firewall. If you don't have it there will be a plate(EGR blockoff ) there with two nuts holding it on. I'm running the URD FTC with bigger injectors and a Supra Twin Turbo MAF and it runs really good.

You can run higher boost in these trucks with no problems provided you fuel it correctly. I'm currently running 9psi and it is fun. The major drawback to the M62 blower is that it is undersized and the higher boost makes more heat than power and the efficiency goes into the toilet. These trucks will handle alot without breaking from tranny to tranfer case to rear ends and u-joints. There are plenty Taco 4X4's running around with 280-300 at the rear tires with no breakage issues. I've had no breakage issues.

I'm not too sure about that, TRDOLMAN is running one and seams to manage OK POWER ... Sure the stock controller sucks but the URD one works great.

I'm running the URD FTC with bigger injectors and a Supra Twin Turbo MAF and it runs really good.

I ran the same setup (though you must have a smaller pulley) because I only hit 8psi once, most of the time it pegged at 7. I did it to compensate for the power loss with going to 33's but was never really happy so pulled it off and sold it all to buy 4.88's and was way happier. Mileage went up and it actually was peppier with the 4.88s and N/A than with the stock 4.10's and S/C'd.

You can run higher boost in these trucks with no problems provided you fuel it correctly. There are plenty Taco 4X4's running around with 280-300 at the rear tires with no breakage issues.

This statement needs a caveat, that the auto's WILL blow up without a valve body upgrade. Oh and most if not all of the trucks I know of running this hp level are on near stock sided tires. Double the hp at the rear wheels AND up the tire size will almost guarantee mechanical failures...

I agree, If he is starting from scrach, the best bang for the buck is the URD kit not the 7th. When I stated the hp range I thinking TRDOLMAN as the top hp output.

I do have one of the smaller pulley. I've though about changing the gearing to 4.88's but I haven't.

You got me one that one! Mine is a 5 spd so i was in that line of thinking. The way I look at it you can break just about anything if you are stupid with the go pedal. PurpleFJ62 didn't give any info on his 4runner so I figured it was stock.

Sorry, the TRD is an M62 blower. If yours is black then you have a gen 2. The gen 1 was light grey and sat a little taller on the engine. There is no intercooler for the setup. A few people have experimented in the past but there is not a really easy way that is efficient.

CHWTOY is right about the auto. I believe Level 10 and one other co. have the valve body upgrade that is a must. Not cheap but far less than a new tranny.

Search Yotatech for the VSC. I remember some threads about guys working on a switch install that deacitvated it. That is your best bet. I can't reacll the outcome though.

I would seriously consider doing something with the fuel system and the tranny very soon. Unfortunately TRD wasn't allowed to sell the S/C as they wanted to so the end product could cause damage to both your engine and transmission. It's possible that he 7th injector was installed and at least will protect your engine from failure (though it leaves a lot of hp on the table). The trans though is a pretty straight forward deal, just contact one of the 2 vendors listed and get the upgraded valve-body. It's more of a when not if scenario, mostly with a full boost good traction 1-2 shift.

This used to be true in 2001, but not any more. There are LOTS of fast SUV's running around now. Hell my wife's bone stock 04 4runner with the V8 and 5-speed auto, flat out destroyed my Taco with the S/C'd V6 and 5-speed.

No intercooler without some pretty trick custom fab work, but the guys that are really pushing the limits use alky/water injection to cool the charge. You can get the whole setup from URD or piece one together.

2001 was the last year the manual was offered in a US 4runner, but they are quite uncommon. Something like a couple of thousand sold the entire year.

Yeah like "Lockd97" said do a search on Yotatech, I believe it involves putting a momentary switch in line with one of the brake sensors under the hood. Sets off lots of lights on the dash but goes away (and re-engages VSC) the next time you start the rig.
