How many miles on your alternator?

I keep the wife on a short leash, she's not allowed to go to the mall. It's her latte-getting, grocery-gathering, kids-schlepping, hairy attack-dog hauling cruiser, like most '06+ LX's, I imagine. It's also our go-to vehicle for our road trips.

Is this a mall cruiser?

13 years on original battery????:eek::eek:

At this point it it's like a Seinfeld episode with the low gas tank... it's gone on so long at a ridiculous level that you have to keep going til it ends badly.

~175k and still going

My truck is an '06 LC, alternator died with no warning at 99k miles. Replaced at dealer with OEM for $600.

How are you guys diagnosing this, or do you rely on some autopart stores info. In 11 years of having the shop, I think we might have replaced 2 or 3 alternators in 80's/100's and even other Toyota vehicles.

In my case, it was diagnosed by an independent Lexus mechanic in my 'hood. He has a good reputation and I've been comfortable having him service our LX and my 4Runner. Unfortunately I failed to acknowledge the warning light in a timely fashion, and drove it until the battery went dead. That event happened about 6 hrs before we had to board a plane for a 2 week vacation so my options were limited as I had to get it repaired and garaged ASAP. Had I heeded the light like I should've, I could've at least given it more time and attention for 2nd opinions.

I just went to local spirit store for stock up for the Easter weekend and truck wouldn't start, of course at the store not a home. It's completely dead, no lights, no power, no aux or anything. Within last 4 months, I have replaced both battery and starter... so assuming alternator. My wife and I tried to jump for 20 minutes but it was dead as a door nail (whatever that means).

I am going to have it towed to independent mechanic tomorrow morning, but don't think there is a way to tell if it's the battery or alternator without getting it started... correct? I don't think it is starter as both my starter failures clicked upon trying to start and failed over a period of time.

Any suggestions?

It is the original alternator with 179K miles.

Check cables and fuses???? No Lights, power, etc.... sounds like a different issue...

Sounds like a battery connection issue. My battery was very oxidized around the connections before I replaced it. I cleaned out the connections and that did the trick.

I removed my battery post connections and soaked them in phosphoric acid. They look brand new now.

over 205k , org alternator , 1999. All of this is just another good reason for a dual battery set up ! Use this to your advantage.

The alternator on my 06 100 died at around 90K last year. I know it went bad because the gawd awful sound it made and only 12 volts on the gauge cluster. Replaced with reman from Oreily's for around $350.
