And you are entitled to YOUR opinion I simply provided the information that I recieved from Toyota, the company that designed our vehicle, and would assume that they would know more about the maintanance requirement.

They also say to change out oil and filter out at 5k, when EVERY other place out there recommends 3.5k for oil filter change, and around that time for DINO oil change too. Why bother risking these things? Toyota doesn't even TELL you when to change out the rear differential oil, but pretty much EVERYONES was messed up at 10-15k, even worse at 20k. Follow the guide if you want, but changing out early isn't going to hurt, and most of the time it's better. You need to take into consideration that the times they give are for you're normal, average driver. Not anyone that drives the vehicle hard, as if you DO, it's common-sense to change things early, as they will wear out quicker. And in reality, if you waited say 10k for a dino oil change (very stupid) by the time it REALLY started to show effects on you're engine, it wouldn't be Toyota's problem anyway. You'd be out of warranty and SOL, that's my view at least. Changing out early is simply a step forward in protecting and making sure everything that is in my vehicle is fresh and running clean.

This reminds me of what an old Italian mechanic once told me about my FIAT 128:

"The manual says the oil in the transaxle is good for the life of the gearbox...but the life of the gearbox will be a lot longer if your change the oil every 30-k or so..."!

I like a good quality oil in the engine (non-synthetic) and change it every 30-k. I even got 140-k out of a Yugo once-no lie! Castrol back then...

Same goes for our transmission fluid. NO fluid is life-time, that's a joke, You change it out at 50k and you'll clearly be extending it's life. I don't' believe in those "high mileage" or "life time" fluids.
