I did a substantial search and got all kinds of answers. One person was sure that their glow plugs lasted 25 years! I'm curious to know what my a new set might last and whether I should stock up on replacements before the plugs get discontinued...

For people that have replaced multiple sets of glow plugs on their vehicles, how long and how many Km/miles did your sets get?? And what brand? and what engine type?

One rig is at about 270,000 kms and needs new glow plugs. The other is at about 180,000 kms and needs new glow plugs. I guess it also depends on the climate you are in. I presume the more they get used the quicker they burn out. If you live in hot area of Australia, you might not notice any glow plug issues antil you go wheeling in the alpine in the winter.

Over use can burn them out if you have installed a manual set up on a switch.
Your in a winter climate so before I start start my truck I glow them 3 tiems for 5 seconds and pause for 5 seconds. Then turn it over. The oil pressure needs time to build so I let it run for 3 to 4 min. to allow the oil pressure to build up before I drive.
Once your not starting well is an indication they may be going or the contacts have corrosion - if so clean and spray with lube oil spray. NGK and Nippon Denso. * follow proper torc specs *
On a similar note if you are not getting good milage on your 3b. 700km to 800km a tank ( stock tires ) your injectors could need be replacing. I use a fuel additive and water evaporator in with my fill.

Cheers
