So my 1HZ has a slight exhaust leak at the manifold. It looks like the gasket is starting to fail, but the exhaust manifold itself is pretty rusted and I wouldn't mind replacing it. I am not super mechanically inclined yet. I've replaced the alternator and all the belts myself, I've rewired the entire battery system myself, but it's definitely a process of learning along the way. Is a project like this something you guys think I can tackle? It looks simple enough and it seems like I can order the parts. I recently had the rest of the exhaust system replaced, so the manifold is really the only legacy part of the exhaust left.

I wouldn't necessarily look at replacing the exhaust manifold. Perhaps removing it and blasting it to clean it up? Save the money and put it towards getting it ceramic coated? Replace the gasket and nuts/studs. It is not too difficult to do at all. But there is a possibility of having a stud break while removing, this creates more work, but not insurmountable. When putting in the new studs, remember to use anti-sieze on the threads before putting them into the block.

Thanks Rigster! Good idea with salvaging the one I have. I’ll hunt around for someone who can do that then buy the gaskets.
replace the mounting studs too while you are at it

most of them will come out anyway when you unbolt the manifold

rinse/repeat with the three studs that connect the manifold to exhaust

Even if the manifold has a crack, it can likely be repaired.
With your camera photos and folks on this website, you can do the work yourself.
