Hi guys,

A new member here just trying to clean up the exterior of the new rig. It's an '06 LC and the rear name plate looks to have been painted and it's peeling on the top (seen in pic below). I like the black background with chrome lettering but I'm not sure how to go about taking it apart.

I can see that the nameplate as a whole comes off as it has what looks like double side stick underneath, but do the letters come off individually or would I have to tape those off and paint around? Do I just re-attach with some of-the-shelf 3M double stick when I'm done?

Any one who has plasti-dipped or anything else please chime in as it is kind of bugging me and I'd like to get it cleaned up! I'm not sure if this was a factory option but something is telling me it was the previous owner's project.

Thanks,

Pete

Plastidip works great, washable and lasts a long time. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I have had it on my FJ Nameplate for over 2 years and it is still good as the day I did it.

Yeah that's definitely something I'm considering, but I actually like the way the gloss black matches the car so I'm going to try to match that if possible. I'm mainly concerned with how the whole things comes apart or whether I just tape everything off while it's still mounted and paint it on the car.

If you use Plastidip, you don't have to tape off much, just a general area, it doesn't stick to the paint on the vehicle, it comes right off. Check out the YouTube video's of people plastidipping there emblems. It is crazy how the stuff works.

Where in Boston are you? Welcome to the board!

Ha! That last pic did make me think South End, but your others felt more like North End. Looks like just us 3 all with Black LC's lol. I see a ton of Sequoia's and few silver / white LC's around, but haven't come across another Black one.
