How do I adjust fuel level so it's right in the middle?

The level is slightly low in the site glass and wanted to know how to adjust it to get it at half way in the glass.

im not sure on how to adjust the float level but i do know that as long as you can see any gas at all it should be fine

I think most people prefer it slighty low. If you notice nothing when accelerating hard I think it is fine. When you floor it and drains the bowl faster than it can refill it you get a hipcup sound..which you will know when it happens for sure. The cruiser will kinda stall. To adjust it you pull the top air horn off and lay it up side down check the tolerance between the float (lowest part) and air horn and bend some tabs on the float. I wouldn't mess with it unless you have a problem or have the carb apart.

I had a problem with the tank level (never full, and empty before it was really)
I had clean the connector on the tank (wd-40) and now it's ok

You adjust the fuel level by pulling the top of the carb top off and bending the tab on the float that makes contact with the needle and seat assembly. Just be careful not to scratch or damage the protective coating on the float or it will start to take in fuel and sink. Or so I've been told. I have been luck and never damaged one.

Told wrong.:frown:

It's just a black plastic foam float. They don't fail. Though I have seen fire damaged examples...

Sooo don't have a cig or an open flame near by when working with the carb. ;p
Thanks Jim, I won't be so delicate with it now.

where is the connector located....mine says dangerously empty, but i can only put in 20 gallons max at that point

thanks

The sender is accessible through the rear cargo floor. Undo the rear carpet trim strip, then roll carpet forward. You'll find a small square access hatch w/ two phillips screws. Remove hatch and access connectors for fuel gage.

It seems Toyota fuel gages are usually pretty pessimistic. I wouldn't worry about it.

On a couple of FJ60's I have had trouble passing CA smog. One thing I did to help was to get the float level right. One night going accross town I was sputtering and couldn't idle without holding my foot on the gas pedal. I got home and the bowl was empty. I readjusted my float again and haven't looked back.

You adjust the level in two directions with the tab that presses down the needle valve. First make sure your needle vavle is clean and the spring is still a spring. The first measurment is the top of the float to the top of the air horn as it rests with its own weight upside down. That should be 6mm (.236in). The second is the distance between the top of the needle and the tab that depresses it. It should be 1.1mm (0.043in). Put the horn back on without letting the little o rings drop down the hatch.

Anyway worthy adjustment to be working on. Good luck.
