Hello, I haven't been to a meeting yet but look forward to schnokering you all at the next meeting. How many attend anyway? I live right off S. Hampton. I just bought my 97 A/E , factory locked beauty, took it to CO. and got into some fantastic trails and remote camping. Drug the hitch and knocked the running boards many times, both are scheduled for removal. I was hoping not to have any problems since it only has 50K miles on it but I'm almost positive a front wheel bearing is bad. I felt an occasional fast vibration coming back, just outside STL. Anyway, I'm assembling all of the tools to tear into her. I have the service manual but my maintenance schedule won't be here for 10 days and I don't want to wait till then to start. So, I was wondering what else I should do while I'm in there. Also, I would really appreciate someone with a little more knowledge stopping by.

Brake pads and rotors if they're needed. That's really about it if you're only going as far as the bearings. Eventually you'll want to do the front axle service. FRONT AXLE FAQ

The vibe could be a few things...wheel bearings, trunion bearings, dry spindle bushing, driveshaft component, etc.

Are you going to the Flat Nasty event?

Thanks, That link will be a great help. And yes I look forward to to meeting other cruiser owners, their rigs, and seeing all the mods. in action at the flat nasty event.

Where did you go in Colorado?

If ya need help I might be able to give ya a hand...

I live right off S. Kingshighway

Just let me know....

I got hitched in Estes Park. Had her (our) 6yr old and three dogs to boot. Then we went to the Pikes Peak region on trails listed in the book 'Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4- Wheel Drive Trails'. Some easy marked trails are only washboards (totally hated) while some are boulder strewn. I should mention that the book was written 10 yrs ago and erosion happens. The Rampart Range Road was scenic coming into Garden of the Gods from the back mountain side and had some good side roads and camping. Our favorite was La Salle Pass & accompanying side roads like Badger Mtn. Great camping- (with 12 gauge) The state seems to be riddled with state and forest service roads to anywhere and nowhere. Next visit - the Ouray/ Telluride area. or maybe Crested Butte, or maybe the sand dunes. Flat Nasty first.

Thanks for the help offer Collier. I hope to get her done on my own but its good to know that you might be available for a project eye ball. I'll get into it this week and let you know if I have any problems.

Well, I decided to just go ahead and do the whole front end service. Its all apart, clean and ready for reassembly. I ordered the parts kit from C-dan today and look forward to the reassembly. I could never have done it without the great info. from Mud. The wealth of knowledge is amazing.

What, no pics?

I still wish I had hired a few bikini model type chicks to hold parts during my axle rebuild (just for photo staging) - it would have been the most-viewed front axle service in mud history!

What do you pay by the hour? I might be persuaded. ;p
