How bad is it to drive w/o the rear shaft?

Well, I must admit this was my fault. IIRC, last time I greased the driveshafts, I did the yoke side OK, but the u-joint zerk was facing upwards and I couldn't reached it with the grease gun. So I decided to to it later...and forgot about it.

Sincity, thanks for the parts info. I have asked at the dealer, and the parts guy gives some confusing info about P/Ns.

According to him, the front driveshaft u-joints' Part number is 04371-60050 (replaced by 60051) .
The rear driveshaft is 04371-60041. He doesn't have the 04371-60060 number. Do you know if the 60041 is the same (or replacement) as 60060?
If I can order the part today, they'll have it tomorrow or friday, and I'll try to fix it myself this weekend.

TIA.

OK, I checked with another dealer and he confirmed that both P/Ns are the same part. 04371-60041 was the older number and 04371-60060 is the newer one. Perhaps the other dealer is using an older EPC? I'll have it on friday, and I'll post feedback after the weekend. Thanks again, your info helped a lot!

Update

Well, story finished. The U-joint was impossible to take off. Finally I took the drive shaft to a specialized shop everybody recommended. They also said the u-joint had caused damage to the "holes" (don't know the proper name), which were scratched and with shavings. Also the splines of the slip yoke were damaged, probably due to the continued vibration. So they had to change the flange, u-joint and slip yoke. Total cost was 230 €, which is a good price for that set. Original Toyota u-joint only price was 100 € at the dealer...

Here's the old part (left) and the new one mounted on the shaft (right).

Just for the record, I drove over 2000 km on 2WD without any issues, including 160 km/h highway driving and some misty/rainy mountain pass. I just had to be very careful on the gas pedal when starting from stopped, or else it would go 100m spinning wheels :grinpimp:
