I have an outside hose that is plumbed into the hot water heater in the house.

Is there any reason that I shouldn't use hot water to back flush the cooling system?

The engine will be cool (ambient air temp (75-80F). The household water temp is about 120F. I can't see thermal shock being an issue, but maybe I'm wrong.

I figure the hot water will marginally help with getting the old stuff out.

This is on a 1980 BJ41 2B.

Thanks in advance.

These old vehicles require actually dismantle and proper cleaning of radiators. You will be surprised how much of dirt will come out of engine block, heater and main radiator. It is better to take time and properly clean it.

Regarding thermal shock do not worry about it. It is nothing for the engine.
