Hey, just wanted to give back to this great community. I ordered a hood deflector from etsy. Arrived the other day. Just installed.

Ordered from here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1735880864/castom-hood-protector-for-lexus-gx460

mine was $153 including shipping. looks like he may have raised the price.

the experience was a bit rocky. etsy closed his store after i ordered, but then it was reopened before i received mine. took a bit to get here.

easy install. uses metal s shaped brackets to attach to the hood. set screws in ea bracket firmly connect it to the underside of the hood. the s bracket also has a soft packing-type material glued to ea bracket which im guessing will help protect the hood where the s bracket comes into contact w the hood.

hope that helps. seems to be quite a few people looking for them.

ps. the sunroof deflector is a goodyear model fr amazon. seems much better shaped to the roof profile vs the one gxbob installed on his.

What was happening you needed one? Bug's, rocks/stones/pebbles?
Had one on my wife's Landcruiser (not the one I put the lift on). Had if for a couple years, then got tired of it when it came time to wash the car. Took it off after a while. But that's just me.
Remember "bra's" for cars? Had one on my old Porsche, that too, I got tired of and would usually leave it off. Although it really did protect against debris hitting the leading edge and front end.
One thing I've been looking at are the window deflectors so I can crack the windows when it rains, or should I say drizzles here in So. Cal.

lol. still have the bra for my '98 4runner (5spd). came w matching window covers too.

yes, it's all about the abuse the front ends get out here in the desert and pine country. i find a hood protector works well. never really have problems w them. i dont mind the look. not sure how i feel about it on the gx, looks wise. looks a little odd fr the driver's seat. the contour was a little destracting.

my front end is already chipped including the hood. 13k mi. grrr

3m clear bra is the best for this purpose I think but pricey. Had full front clear wrap on my MDX. Started oxidizing around 7-8 years in. Took it off and paint was flawless underneath. Paint looked brand new when I sold it 12 years after I bought it. I think a full front clear wrap is like a grand so not sure its worth it in the long run considering you could get a decent respray of the hood for that.

Mines a trail hog already so no sense it trying protect anything at this point. I like my patina. Shows I use it for what its built for, also shows I could use a spotter more often : )

Been using my running boards for sliders a lot lately. Do they make a rock deflector for this:

I’ve had the the OEM one not sold in NA on mine since 2018. I had to purchase out of distributor in Germany. It was made by a company out of Australia for the Eurasian market.

After dealing with 3M removal on another vehicle..and while I have on another vehicle I likely won’t go down that road again. I think a repaint would actually be better considering the work and potential paint damage with removal of a clear bra on a long over-aged 3M. They should be really be replaced no more than every 10 years.

Yeah.. last one I took off was beyond heat gun (tried it)… I had to resort to the official 3M chemical remover and plastic razor blades.

It was at the crumbling point at year 17 :)

Does the hood deflector make the windshield more prone to rock chips in your opinion?

ive had plenty of winshield chips w a hood deflector and without. couldnt really say. but i lmow foe certain it protects the hood from most stuff. i CAN confirm it wont help if the truck is hit by an elk. lol

Just sent an email to our club's trail boss for this Death Valley run in March. Seeing if we can squeeze a couple more rigs on this run, e.g.: you and Jake.
So is the 4R back again??
