Trying to get an old Honda EG 1400 running after sitting with gas in it for some time. Cleaned the tank and went through the carb, replacing the soft parts and made sure the jet was clear. The problem I'm having is it starts, runs for a couple seconds then dies. Any ideas?

It is getting fuel, just not enough fuel.

As weed hopper mentioned check for a crack in the fuel line.

Also check the fuel filter. It is probably a strainer screen in the tank. Backflush the fuel line with carb cleaner.

Next time you start it, make sure you have some Sea Foam in the fuel tank and manually choke it by holding a rag where the air filter goes. Get it running for as long as possible and then shut it off and let it sit. Let the seafoam do it's magic for about 5 minutes.

Sorry I didn't follow up with this. Initially I pulled the jet I poked a needle until I saw light, not knowing how big the hole should be. After looking at a few YouTube videos, I saw that some guys were using a torch tip file to clean them out. I know I hadn't gone that far. So I pulled the jet back out, ran that file through it and BAM. I did replace that strainer under the fuel cap too. Now it's bound for KOH.
