Do any of you guys have home made bike racks?

I cant find any racks I like in the stores here in Iceland, and ordering from the states is not a very good deal these days.

I made me a hitch mounted rack which could carry up to four bikes (normally two and then I could add rack for two more). On this rack the bikes were hanging on the frame and rubbing to each other. So now my bike is a bit scratched and don´t like using it any more.

Now I have made me a rack where the bike stands on the wheels, but for now that rack only has room for one bike. I´m going to add room for more bikes later.

But i´m kind of out of ideas about how to hold the bikes in place, I don´t want the bikes to touch each other. I also want to be able to drive some rough roads/offroad without having to worry about the falling off.

So do you have any pics of home made or some other brilliant racks to show me?

You could use something like the Yakima trays only verticle so you'd have the rear tire in a basket of some sort and the front fork locked in. That'd pretty secure. For taking them on rough roads, I prefer a roof top rack. Just gets em up out of the way so they don't drag on stuff.

Here are some photos of the bike rack I bolted to my roof rack. It works well and keeps the bikes secure. I simply cut a Yakama gutter into 3 pieces drilled holes and bloted them to the roof rack. I used Yakama blockheads to secure the forks to the rack. Cost less then $100usd. Hope it helps you out.

Hey that's alright:p

I've used the same forkblock / trimmed tray solution on the front bumper of my 40 for the last 8-10 years.
Works great.
