Are there any HJ75 pickups in North America ( nothing personal,
but I am not asking about Troopies or FJ75's...just diesel pickups)?
Thanks, 1978HJ45

Yes. Why?

Yes. Why?

Just trying to determine if the only way to have one is to import it from Australia or New Zealand.

That or an import or mine truck from Canada. Maybe the Middle East.

For legal imports, the 25 year window is starting to open on the older trucks. The one posted up on Cruiserparts.net is a good example:meh:

Saw this one the other day. Someone put it together, and did a nice job by the look of it.

Yes I agree it looks pretty good. I assume you saw it in Canada and not the U.S.?

I think the better question is HOW you have one and not IF. For me, I would want one legally. That means you own property in one of said countries that imports them and you register it there and "visit" the usa for the legal duration, or you bring one in through an RI (if under 25 yrs). Just buying one from another individual that has one here already doesn't guarantee it was brought in legally. You could still find yourself without a truck after a traffic incident if the paperwork isn't fully legit.

Only an episode of "Law and Order" uses the term "legal" more than this reply.:) I almost feel a little guilty for starting the thread.

Why not just build one? I think Profitt's cruisers still has a bunch of the bodies. You could import the motor, and just assemble it on a frame that makes sense. Heck, you could probably modify an 80 series to put the body on and throw any number of engines at it.

Or you could just buy Toyota pickup truck King cab , get rid of the body ...find rusted bj 70 ... shrink it ...put it on the frame of the pickup truck and voila ...can't get more legal than that ...

You obviously have me confused with somewhat who has mechanical talent.:) I am more of a "turn key" kinda guy.

i know over hear its easy to get one (there everywhere near me)
but if i lived in the US in would just get a stuffed 80 series and import just the cab and do a body swap if that makes sense?
would u still have to worry about the 25 year rule thing then?

sorry for just repeating what u just said. i should learn to read lol

I'd like to have one myself but not for 20k+. Wasn't that the projected cost of one of the new bodies and build? I've thought about trying to find one with the full bed, diesel, LHD and just use it on my property but that takes the fun out of it if I can't go between land areas on a public road.

I assume there would be no issues with importing major parts such as the forward section of a 75 Series and the 80 Series are readily available here in the States however they are all gas burners. I also assume the 1985 and some 1986 HJ75's are now legal to import.

Hey man, we are just trying to give you info on the up and up:grinpimp:

But, really you have 4 ways.

1. 25y or older. (old and beat up mostly)
2. Build one (kinda spendy)
3. Find a Registerd Importer and bring in a Middle East Spec truck (prolly more spendy and more hoops to jump thru)
4. Find one of the handful of grey market trucks out there. (dreaded Law & Order legal quandry)

There are pros and cons to all 4 of those choices, and as you research you'll find out what will work best for you in both cost and effort.

Check out West Coast Cruisers website, and look in the personal galleries. The owner has a '99 HZJ75 Ute, an '06 HZJ79 Ute, and a sweet '09 HZJ76 Wagon that I think he imported thru an RI, pretty nice trucks by the look of it
