Hi Guys,

Just a little info on a much debated subject would be great. I have an imported 61, standard 15x8" rims. OME front and rear springs, OME schocks and an ARB rear locker.

The tyres are shot and need replacing. Currently I have 33x12.5, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Nice rig.

What are you planning on doing with the truck? It kinda helps to figure out tire options.

oh ya, Welcome to the forum

Damn Canucks and their GREY market imports!

I fart in your general direction!

Nice rig.

GREY market, i thought it was 100% legit????? :D

Hey Cruza, what's the deal with the covers on the rear door windows?

What kind of use the truck sees will greatly impact the tire choice.

I recently bought Firestone Destination MT's though- and love them. However, they don't have anything that wide, mine are 33's, but closer to 10.5 across.

Hey,

Sorry bout the missing info. It's a DD with an enthusiastic off-road family. MT are out due to road noise...I was really looking for size....I think 31x10.5 might look a little small....

The covers on the rear windows are called Window Sox, basically the stop sun and heat getting to the 3 littlies in the back..Make a huge difference in summer.

Whats with the "GREY" import and fart thingy??? Have I offended someone ?

Cheers

He's just mad he can't get one of our 61's into the US :flipoff2:

but he has a sweet rig being built so don't feel to soory for him :D

For a DD I really liked my BFG ATs. I think I have a pick of my truck with 31 I can send you...

or look here for a bunch of different configurations of my truck. From stock 31x10.5, 35x12.5 and 9.00R16

Tires and wheels are such a personal choice...

If I am reading this right, you are from the Land Down Under; home of 16" wheels with the correct BS and Offset in 7" and 8" widths (If I sound bitter I am...16x8's that fit any 1980 era's LC are not available afaik in North America).

I suppose you might be able to guess I would suggest some sorta tyres (or was that tires?) that suit your needs, in a 16" configuration.

Check out:https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=17739 for some information on 16's vs 15's.

Does not help your tire choice though...What are the common brands/models of rubber run where you are?

Hi Cruza Im in Perth as well .Ive got BFG a/t 33x10.5x15 on my 73 series.
Great for those long freewayruns and excellant deflated in the beachsand.
I got mine from that really old tyre place on canning hway Ardross for $250 ea.
He was by far the cheapest from 10 quotes and worth the drive fron NorR.
Nice 61 , I think Ive seen it if you live NorR and dont worry about the North Americans ,they are just drooling over your cruiser.
Did you get it off Prestige Imports,I heard he is good?

Hey Cruza,

Yes the MT's are noisy but, they have been dicontinued. The replacement tire, MTR is very much quieter than the MT. Non-directional tread, different pattern, & sidewall lugs. I'm running MTR's on my daily driver and *love*'em.

Hope this helps,
Cahil

Hey Rosco,

Yes I do live NorR....33x10.5? Hmm My knowledge of syre sizes is worse than I thought...I didn't think that combination was available....Cheers for the info..I'll have a look..

Thanks for the info everyone...

PS Hey TB...Pitty you can't get the cruiser you want isn't it :D :bounce: :D :bounce: :D

Yeah they are an odd size so you usually have to wait a few hours to get them from the warehouse.
Im assuming they will fit as you already have a lift and 33s.
Ill give you a wave next time I see you on the road, look out for a silver 73

I got it way cheap when the exchange rate was good.

1000.00 US stock. I got all the running gear from a diesel Toyota mini truck for 300.00 US.

I figure to have around 15,000 grand into her.

Im selling her and buying a 1989 BJ74. Auto tranny with cable lockers.

Going to put 38's on here too.

Only a car! GASP. Bite your tounge man!
