Hello everyone,

We are french couple travelling around Americas (from the north to the South) with a HJ61. We prepared the car in France before shipping to Montreal last spring. (www.legaillardgalopere.com)
We left France in may, last year, and we crossed the Canada until Vancouver, by the Alaska. Now we are coming back in Rockies until July.

We are curently near Calgary, in Canmore and we have a sound into the gear box for all the gears except for the fourth.
The gear box oil is draining to the transfer case. We would like to open it and to double check the gear box, it's the second time in 30000km...

Any help will be welcomed... We need a place to drop the transmission to open it to know what's wrong and to fix it of course...

If you want to contact us, our cell phone : 604-902-4077 or legaillardgalopere@gmail.com Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you again for your help

I'll see who I can wrangle up in the area. I've got the word spread. So hopefully someone can lend a hand.

They made it to Peter's house and, well, I'll attach his email from the RMLCA list...

Alex and Claire arrived at my place last evening in their very nice HJ61.

It only took a once drive around the block to confirm that they have a countershaft bearing problem, as suspected. The good news is that it doesn't seem to be a catastrophic failure... Transmission is still smooth and tight, and doesn't slip out of 5th.

After a brief conference to identify the options, a plan of action was set... Rebuild the tranny, put in a new clutch while the tranny is out, and fix that t-case/transmission seal.

Their tall truck won't fit in my garage, and I am going away next week to overland expo, so Tyler and I agreed to a relay run last night to get them to Edmonton. I towed them to Red Deer, and handed them off to Tyler on his tow rig. Tyler has Friday off work, has a hoist, and a surprising amount of recent experience on fixing French H55f's, so they are in great hands!

Thanks for the update. I seen on the mailing list. Looks like a nice rig. I figured the countershaft bearings packed it in from their original post.
