Hey guys just seeing if anyone has any ideas or has done anything similar.

So I'm currently trying to work out how I'm going to power up the 61.

The current plan is a new Gturbo, 3 inch exhaust and have it dyno tuned.

It's going to be pretty expensive and ideally I'd like to install an intercooler as well. I feel it's a bit nuts spending this much money and not maximising its potential power increase by not having an intercooler.

But my problem is my 61 has the factory auto transmission cooler. It sits where I'd ideally like to install the PDI intercooler. There is no way to fit the radiator, evaporator, auto cooler and intercooler all at the front.

I need the transmission cooler, when i tow my little jet boat in the summer the auto gets pretty hot, not having an auto cooler isn't really an option.

Has anyone tried re-locating an auto cooler to under the car and installing a fan on it? I feel it's probably a pretty stupid idea and will just end up getting damaged and causing me headaches. But maybe I'm wrong. I do use this car for long distance desert touring in Australia, so rocks and s*** are flying everywhere. I do sometimes take it to the Vic high country when my 40 series is off the road so there is potential for sticks and stuff flying around underneath.

My other option is cutting in a 79 series bonnet scoop and doing a top mount intercooler. But cutting the scoop into the correct position and mounting the intercooler so it seals perfect sounds like a logistical nightmare.

Has anyone got any ideas on what i could do?? Currently I'm thinking the intercooler is just going to be too hard and I've just gotta get it out of my head.

Thanks!

This is the PDI intercooler. Pictures from their website. There is definately no room for an auto cooler unless I completely remove the grill which isn't an option.

Also I don't want to swap in a manual transmission. I've driven manual Landcruisers my entire life and I'm still loving the novelty of having an auto.

The rear mount auto trans cooler with a fan/temp switch can work, you will want an even larger core and the fan will run alot.
