You American fellows may not know much about this beast, but hopefully some of the Aussie members can shed some light for me.

A nice old chap came into work today wanting to trade in his beloved 60. Being in the market for a 60, I went right over it.
Its a 12/1983 HJ60. It is Metallic silver in colour and has "Silver Edition" badges on it - even has Silver edition wrote on the little flap for the cassette deck. The fellow that has owned it (since new) says that it had something to do with Toyota's 25th anniversary in Aust.
Are they rare?
He wants around $8000.00 for it with 12 months rego.
It has not a sign of rust (Strange) even the paint isnt faded. He has Fish oiled everything, and even pulled all the trims off and painted 'red lead' on any bare metal surface. For a 24 year old car, its better most 80 series even early 100 series that come through. Drives very well, no noises, full service history from new.

does it sound good value?

I think so.

Nice and clean. In Canada it would fetch probably close to 14-15 Canadian funds, if it is super clean and rust free like you say. So in OZ money that would be about 17 or so. But I know, your market is much better and full of 2H rigs.

If yah like it buy it. I like it for sure. Have your mechanics look it over. But 8K isn't too bad IMOP

Very nice, how many kilo's?

325000 klms. Which is suprising looking at the vehicle.
He drives from the east coast of australia to the west coast town of broome every year. (for those who dont know - thats a long frikin way!!!!)
The photos really dont do it any justice. It needs a polish, and it would look showroom. Being that he is the original owner, he knows a lot about it. He even showed me where all the panel drain and weep holes are, and how to clean them.
Ill depart with the heavy roof racks, and get the windows tinted, but leave it pretty much like it is. All we noticed was that the front inner axle seals need doing (starting to get wet). I think ill call the bank...

Buy it up!

The inner axle seals would not stop me from buying at all.

Congrates.

I dont think they are all that rare, just uncommon. I got an old guy in my neighbourhood who has one and I see them for sale occasionally in the classifieds.
The one in my area says Silver Series Edition and has some SS badges on the side. Not sure whether that is something the owner has done.
It has the same paint.

They also come as a FJ60.

As for the price, another $2000 and you might find a HJ61;)

hey dave thats a nice wagon but i dont know if i'd jump at it for 8g,there was a hj61 sahara on ebay in sydney the other week 9500 starting price and no reserve if i remember, this thing was imaculant,i kept an eye on it for interest sakes as i have a rust free one allready, chicky babe had been driving it around the north shores by the looks of it it had @ 230ks on it,lots of photos and it was nice,it didnt get a bid but i'd be surprised if it didnt sell afterwoods,i spent 6 months last year driving troopys with trailers around wa @ nt ,standard 1hz motors,we were towing trailers with a camp kitchen etc for running tours, pretty heavy trailers and if we hit headwinds off the desert i'd be buggered towing the big trailer,i couldnt see a 2h being any better, youve got a few hills up your way too,im originally from nowra, spent alot of time down the brindabellas trout fishing and out nerriga way prospecting,i had an earlier 60 series and it didnt have interrmittitent wipers or an adjustable steer column, pissed me off sometimes,hj61 with 12ht is a different story they have good power, hills dont bother you, hunt around the odd good one comes up for about the price your looking at,check out carsales.com,allways alot on there and sometimes a good hj61.
cheers goldchaser
ps: a mate just bought nerriga pub if your out that way drop in for a beer,he's a good bloke.
sorry about my spelling,im not to bright but i can lift heavy fings.

I don't know anything about the Silver Series, but I'd say if you want a 60 then buy it. I paid $6000 for my 83 model HJ60 about 18 months ago. It was a one owner vehichle with minor rust (none on the roof). It had 272,000km and didn't have any accessories at all (which I liked). Looks like agood buy and if you keep the 31's on it the 2H is ok to drive.
