Hello,

I just bought a nice Land Cruiser HJ60 1987 (canadian specs) here in Quebec last week and there's much to do on the car. I have to post pics soon in the registry ;)

I read a lot on the forum here, but I'm working hard this week and cannot get all the infos I need before going to the repair shop for a full check-up.

I want to know which fluid should I change to do the maintenance, assuming nothing has been changed for a while.

I already bought some Rotella T oil for the motor at Walmart, but what other fluid should I change and what do you suggest that I can buy here in Quebec? (Sears, Walmart, Canadian tires, Costco, etc.)

I think this is a simple question, but it would take me much time to get all the infos I need, so please help me out for this.

Thanks

I would replace all the fluids, trans,T case, diffs, coolant, engine oil and full break flush. With unknown history its also a good idea to change the fuel filter.

Good luck,

Post in the Diesel and 24v section for more info if needed.

Ask 12 different guys and you are going to get 12 different answers. Nothing special required just stick with products you are familiar with.

As said, just change everything. Better to do a bit of redundant maintenance, than too little.
I bought an Hj60 too, over 2 years ago, and have also replaced all fluids, filters, wheel bearings, seals, etc... even though some weren't really due, in retrospect.

I usually stick with the owner's manual, which recommends your oil thickness be dependant on the temperature. In my area that's 20W50 year round. I go with Penrite diesel oils.

flush the brake fluid if possible and use orange coolant for the rad. Checkt he water pump mine went out around 250k! easy to change though.

Thanks for the advices.

I just need to know here I can buy some gear oil in Quebec.

So far, I only found some Castrol Syntec 75w-90 at NAPA. I think I'll go for that for the T case and differentials... Any other suggestion where I can buy some?

So far:
Engine Oil: Rotella T
Trans: Castrol MV ATF with Lucas transmission fix
T case: Castrol Syntec
Differentials: Castrol Syntec
Coolant: orange

Any other suggestions?

Just out of curiousity, but why orange coolant?
How's that different from the green stuff? Always wondered about that.

Welcome to the Madness! I've done the same thing back in March of this year, buying a HJ60 CDN spec in Quebec.

It's funny because I asked myself the same questions back then! And like Kynot said, ask anybody and you'll never get the same answer. Get your hand on some Factory Shop Manual (FSM).

Basically, change all the fluids, easy job to do by yourself and save yourself some money! I bought all my fluid at Canadian Tire(especially when they are in sale) following the FSM specs and some IH8MUD advices.

Post some pics and if you are in the Montreal area and need some help or want to see another HJ60, let me know!

How many bottles of Castrol MV ATF 1 gallon (3,78 L) do I need for the transmission fluids for this Land Cruiser?

How many bottles of Castrol Syntec 75w-90 do I need for change of fluids in T rCase, rear and front diffeentials in this Land Cruiser?

Thanks
