Hello all I have been recently thinking about selling my 1980 HJ45 (H motor)...Currently have too many projects and haven't been able to give it the love or attention it needs. Not 100% yet STILL on the fence on selling it . ( looove the way they look with the correct bed etc)... Im having trouble coming up with what would be a fair asking range... I've seen crazy swings/ranges in asking prices not to mention they don't pop up as often as say an Fj40 to give more of an average ask VS condition price. Don't want to be that guy asking crazy money for it so i figured this would be a good place to start.

The HJ fires right up and drives/shifts smooth...Has the stock wheels with clips (missing the caps) freshie ass 33x10.50 BFG ATs.
Does have some rust on passenger side floor pan and a bit of rust/flaking on the frame but nothing crazy. The rest of the body being free of rust and straight.

All suggestions are welcome and much appreciated.

Thank you,

CC

is it titled and registered in the US?
is this the one that had the questionable title or no title from a few years ago?

how long is the bonded title for?
in my state it is 3 years

Man I guess I had higher hopes from this post...Over 200+ views and zero input on a fair asking price or even a ballpark range.

CC,

To help you, I don't know about the others, but before I hazarded a guess on value/price range, I'd want to see and know more. A lot of these trucks came out of South/Central America and are literally beat to death--I'd want to know some of its origin and history. Do you have the original bed, tailgate, headache rack? I'd also want to know about clear transferable title and acceptance for registration in most states. I'd want to see close up photos: of the undersides/frame, multiple interior areas, behind the seats, frame horn serial number, close-up of firewall info plate, drivetrain, etc..

The more details you provide, the better the estimate, and it's just that--an estimate, not a guarantee. A number of guys here have gone to a lot of work on their trucks, asked and received tips and advice, listed their truck for sale, and then it languishes for a long time, maybe sells, maybe not. The current market at that moment may be saturated, or too few folks are interested at even a fair price, or maybe it requires more work than a buyer wants to invest--such is life. You're correct--you've seen prices all over the map, and that won't change--whether for a Land Cruiser or a classic Mustang or a VW bus.

Despite what anyone here or elsewhere suggests for a value, the truck remains yours, and its value to you is your own opinion. I personally would provide more photos and a more detailed history and description, along with spending a lot of time looking over the many threads on this site comparing what you see with what you've got to offer. If you see 20 very similar trucks that have asked say $5,000, that should lead you to a probable conclusion that yours is probably in the $5,000 range, and asking much more will likely get you snarky comments about greed and ignorance. On the other hand, advertising for far less could get a quick sale and the unsettling feeling in the pit of your stomach that you should have investigated things more.

CC,

Exactly this is my main concern haha...More so the quick sale part but everything well put sir. Honestly giving it some love/tracking down the correct bed doesn't sound bad either.

My observations on mud are that a 45 really needs to be stock, and a gasser to get premium prices. It needs to be fairly complete as well.

So, you have no bed and a SA truck against you.
Add to that the rust (and given SA truck history perhaps much more hidden rust) and the shaky title and you have a low demand truck.

If you are interested in selling it, list it for what you have in it, plus a few points for you trouble to import it, and see where it goes.
