Hey folks...

Tomorrow, I'm going to start fabbing a 30 gallon aux. fuel tank for the Aussie HJ-75 Troopy / 12H-T conversion project. The tank's going behind the rear axle, between the frame rails. It will become the main tank, and the original under-body tank will become the reserve, to be pumped into the main tank electrically once the main tank supply is depleted.

Are there any off-the-shelf "purchasable" options Down Under (or elsewhere) for adding another stock-looking fuel filler to the Troopy's side body panel? Ideally, I'd like it to go behind the right rear tire, near the factory flapper body vent.

The Long Ranger tank kits come with another filler and door, don't they? Anyone know if they'll sell them without the tank?

It'd be great to know what was out there, before I light up the TIG. At this point, I'm not sure where to put the filler port on the custom tank. The easiest solution would be to fill it right through the floor with the back doors open, but that's asking for stinky diesel spillage trouble. Especially since she's to become a bush camper.

Thanks for the help!

The troopy filler and door should be the same as 70/73 series ,maybe you could source one from Canada.

Looking at the Longranger site I think their filler replaces the original so you can fill both tanks from one door, like an 80 series

Rosco - thanks for the link. I think the rear tanks fill at the rear of the Troopy, maybe behind the rear tyre. One of the front tanks says it adds a second filler door, and I'm guessing that mounts in front of the rear tyre.

I contacted Long Ranger and was told that they buy the parts to add a second filler direct from Toyota.

Would anyone happen to have access to fiche or non-USA parts diagrams that might let me pick the parts I need, so I can try and order them? Again - 1985 Australian-market HJ-75 Troopy.

Since I'm refinishing the body, it's the prime time to weld this stuff in, if I can get hold of it!

Thanks to all!

the brackets of the spare tyre holder under the rear is welded to the chassis so you will have to unpick or grind it off, and the sub tank modles have brackets in differnt spots to but nothing some welding etc cant fix ,then maybe hunt for a rear door of a troopy that has the spare tyre holder on it or get a new rear bar made up

Clint - Tyre carrier is LONG GONE - this Troopy had Hi-Rail gear back there when I bought it. A little plasma last week got rid of the rest of the unwanted bracketry.

I spent a couple days chasing some leads, but I don't think it's worth the time or expense to source a Troopy fuel door from the States. There are a thousand Ford pickup fuel doors at the wrecking yard, just waiting to be chopped out of a fender and welded in to the Troopy's quarter panel.

That's probably my cheapest, fastest option with parts "in stock at my local supplier".

It would look better if it was done like Toyota do it. Im sure you can use a BJ70 door and tube ,maybe the canucks can help.
