Good morning/afternoon everyone depending on your location. I am looking for some advise/insite. I am looking to potentially purchase a JDM Hilux surf or a Landcruiser Prado. I am looking for mostly a daily driver with very occasional mild offroading. I am located in the US so pre 98 and I travel roughly 25miles each way to work mostly highway 55 to 70mph. I am mostly interested in diesels for the unique factor. Are these vehicles suitable for these speeds? I am a newbie in JDM vehicles but am very mechanically inclined. Are there certain engines that should be avoided or are some better? Lastly do you prefer Prado or surf? I am open to other brands or models if you feel they are more reliable or better to drive, normal/heavy duty cruisers seem to be a bit out of the price range I'm hoping to be in.

if you are mechanically inclined, why not just buy a clip and swap something?
Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for something I can just buy and drive. I already have enough projects unfortunately. I just added the mechanically inclined part to show I wouldn't have any issues replacing cooling system, timing belt, EGR, etc.

im personality a hilux guy but afaik none of the old stuff is factory boosted.
i have looked into grabbing an early Prado (LC2) as they are called here, with turbo and SA. the later stuff is basically a 4runner with the boosted diesel and lots of plastic cladding.
looks like the 90-95ish surfs are available with the 2lt as well.
lined up to buy a hilux next week though. maybe. hopefully.

Ya I was looking at the ones that are basically right hand drive turbo diesel 4 runners. That's very exciting I hope you get the one your looking at next week.
