So I got the steering box and the vane mounting this weekend but the steel tubing to the vane won't clear the engine (actually I don't know what its called, is a exhaust like thin metal piping coming off the manifold)

In any case, can I cut/bend and re-flare the end? And can I pick up a kit at Sears or something. Do we have a flare kit in the club tool box. Or, is this something I should have a shop do.

Thanks

How big is the line your trying to flare ? Is it single or double flare ?

looks like single flare and 10mm probably need to take about half of this off or make an extreme bend.

Jon,

Get with Craig (breckbone on mud) he's got a flaring tool I lent him. He's in Burke, might be at a point where you can get the tool from him. He's been working on his brakes on his '68 . I also checked after looking at the pic you posted and that should be double flared like a brake line.

If Craig can't help you, and the powersteering line is double flared, 45° like a brakeline, then I may be able to help you if you feel like driving to MD, and I would need to know the line size. I can do 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2".

I can't tell from the pic if it is dbl flared. If you want to take a closeup of an item with a digital camera, then push the macro button first, the 'flower' button.

High pressure should be double flared 45! My scout was double flared. Singe flare may work or be very messy when it fails! I'm getting ready to order one!

P.S. Thornton I have not forgot about the license plait holder.

It is in deedy a double flare If you get into a pinch bring it down to the shop and we will do it for you.
No charge! Just dont cut it off yet you need the length it has to make the new bend.

Thanks guys, been at a stand still on this due the the fund raising activities. But while we're at it where can I get some heat tubing for this?
