Hello All,

I'm considering looking at a 1998 LC with around 178K miles. Cost will be around $12K US.

1. Does anyone here have a UZJ with that many miles? My FJ80 has that many but I don't know of any history of the V8 with high milage.

2. Is 12K too much for this truck if it's in excellent condition?

They are bulletproof but a 1998 LC with 178k for 12k. I would pass, the price is way too steep.
No matter how reliable a car is, at 200k its going to start having issues.

only if it came with the repair history.

$12k is way too much. I would consider a 100 w/ good records even at 178k but the price would have to reflect the miles.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I will pass on this one.

that price was way too high but 178,000 miles is not that bad on a 2UZ-FE V8 i have worked on an oilfield company truck tundra with 229,000 miles on it engine ran fine the rest of the truck was pretty rough but the powertrain seemed fine, no leaks it was in great shape.

I have 180,000 miles

I have 180.000 miles on mine and im new to this forum and im going to start putting mods on it now, i think it will last to 300,000 but i want a manual trany and the new landcruiser motor 06, or a deisle from japan

Hey all. I'm new to the forum and found this post while searching for "2UZ-FE". I've got 121,000 miles on my '99 LX470 and was also interested to see how resilient these engines can be if maintained properly. Judging from what I've seen, I should be able to get 200,000 out of this engine without too much trouble.

Unfortunately, at the rate we drive, that's only 4 years. :(

We have 190,000 on our 98LX. In the last five years I have replaced

Both front O2 sensors
All four suspension hyd accumulators (lexus)
rear brake rotor (gouged for no reason)
Both front rotors (warped)
Starter (contacts)
Timing belt, water pump (precaution)

It still gets a solid 14mpg no matter how you drive.

I have no plans to retire it and would drive it to Alaska tomorrow.

Great truck.

It seems relevant to resurect this thread to talk about the double 90,000 PM trip to the dealer. Besides the basic stuff done every 30,000k, I plan to change the following parts out around 180,000:

For sure: Timing Belt, Serpentine Belt, Cooling Hoses and Coolant.
Probably: Water Pump (Still original), adjust parking brake (No extra clicks anymore after she holds).

New concern: Wheel Bearings, no symptoms, but... https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=103607&highlight=wheel+bearings&page=3

What is the AC Refresher Service and Fuel Induction Service? Has anyone done either one ever?

I am still on my original starter and it is working fine. Is there any reason to have them do the contacts at this point? I doubt there would be any labor savings, but I haven't gotten that deep into this motor yet.

I can't believe that I put another 90 on this thing already! What a machine.

How do you spell "euphamism"?

"AC Refresher Service?"
Never heard of it. I would not assume it has any value. They probably squirt a little Fabreeze into the cabin air intake and take your money.

If you were having issues with your AC, such as, "Doesn't blow cold air anymore", I would expect the dealer to at least refill with refrigerant/oil to get the system up to the proper pressure. $8/ a 10oz. refill bottle?

"Fuel Induction Service?"

Sounds like an extra expensive bottle of STP gas treatment/injector cleaner poured into your gas tank, and take your money. $2.50/bottle?

Exactly why I haven't done either one. I found them in the Scheduled Maintenance Guide from the dealer. I just figured if I went much further than 200,000 miles without them, they really wouldn't be scheduled at all!

My 99 is up to 155K but kept up with al my maintenance, I take good care of my Baby! just the TPS at about 40K miles.

'99 Toy 100. 140,000 miles no failures (knock on fake simulated wood paneling). Oil changes every 6k miles, trans/diff changes every 30k, timing belt 90k. No leaks, no noises, no hassle. Let's see this truck make 300k!

Baltimore = rust, and lots of potholes.

landcrusher with 160k

Just bought a 99' LC with 158K from the original owner. I have all the past service records which shows that much of the major work has been done such as timing belt ( done at 69k) , brakes pad and rotors all four (137k), trans. fluid, antenna mast, and other maintenance issues.

At 158k I had done the following:
-Starter
-Timing belt #2
-Water pump

Issues that will be resolved are:
-Muffler is starting to make noise most likely due to rust

Next maintenance /service issues that are on my list:
-Pwr light does not come on, but pwr feature is still active. Not sure why light does not come on? Maybe a burt out light or fuse?
-"D" light is burnt out, oh well, its a truck not a Tahoe.
- Wheel bearings and alignment.
-driver side window is taking forever to go up. What do I need to fix it and how much?

FYI- I plan on driving this beast for another 300k miles.

Sincerely,
landcruiser<Tahoe

Jayboogie;
just a quick suggestion for your slow window; could be a bad motor, etc;
but my 80 did the same thing, was all ready to tear the door apart;
but instead I first cleaned the rubber moldings/runners and then lubed them;
voila; fast window. May not cure yours, but worth a try.
