I talked with a guy the other day who owned a Chevy and had HID bulbs put into his truck,...AMAZING AMOUNT OF LIGHT!! Im wondering if anyone has gone this route with the import HDJ81's?? I have the Lexus headlights as it is,...installed to make the lighting DOT approved upon import and I would like to change the bulbs out to an HID bulb and balast insert,...6000k. Anyone have any luck with good bulbs and any recommendations on reputable sellers with good deals,...I dont want to buy on ebay,...too unreliable.

Thanks,

M

It's only a matter of time until your friend is pulled over and gets a notice and order to remove his HID conversion. The vast majority of these are illegal and the bleed from using housings designed for halogen bulbs, not HID, is much worse than you think. You also don't have the automatic level system unless you retrofit a factory system. Because you are driving an RHD vehicle in Canada (I presume) it is highly likely you will get a lot of police attention at some point or another. At that point it's probable you will be forced to remove your HID's. Not to mention a potential lawsuit if you blind someone and cause an accident.

For more on this, go and check Daniel Stern lighting. I too love HID's but very few have made this conversion, mostly because of the reasons I've brought up here. Most of the "conversions" involve someone putting an HID bulb with a housing change into a halogen reflector. The physics just don't work, and the bleed is usually terrible.

IF there is a factory HID system for your truck, that MAY be a legal conversion. However, I don't believe there is.

I don't want to come across as negative, but am simply trying to give you some information so you can do your own research and make an informed decision.

Remember that if you do cause an accident and the other driver mentions your headlights, the insurance companies will probably want an examination done on the truck. Then the fun starts. EDIT: I forgot to mention that if your truck is involved in a serious MVA causing bodily harm or death, it WILL be towed by the police from the scene and an inspection completed, hence no opportunity to make any changes from its condition when the accident occurred.
