I wonder if something like this can be fabbed up or not to work with the FJ Cruisers spare tire?

I have Slee's Hi Lift mounts on my roof rack now.

But dang, the roof is so darn tall on this rig, much taller than my 4Runner was where I could reach the Hi-Lift with ease.
I need to use a 4' ladder to wash the roof on this new beast.

I am thinking of using the mounts up there instead to put my old shovel up there.
It would be much easier to have the Hi-Lift on the spare tire like in the first photo.

If there is not a commercialy available one now for the spare tire, you make it, I will buy it.

There is nothing currently available but there are several custome shops that are working on rear bumper ideas to include jack mounts, etc.

Corey,
that would be easy to make a bracket off the spare but the real concern would be the weight that the hinges can take. This is an issue also in Land Rovers where, when the hi-lift was mounted to the spare, it would damage the hinges.

It is quite a bit of weight leveraged off the OEM door but if you feel it is up to the task, certainly do-able.

I was looking to do this with a Jerry Can, but am concerned about the sheet metal on the door supporting the weight. I have a 285/70 spare, which already adds weight, and the jack or jerry can will add more. My big concern is the live load when i bump up or down putting acceleration on that weight hung out past the spare.

All-pro has a prototype rear bumper that takes car of this and plans to release? But that's what I'm waiting for - and when I'll add those HD springs!

I just checked all-pro's site, apparently the base bumper is available - I inquired about the tire carrier, gas can holder and hi-lift capability. I will post any info I get back.

Another option FirstToy is I will have an ARB bumper on here before to long.
I may mount it to the top, I have seen them before that way.

Never ran one that way, but at least it would be easy to take off :D
Be about waist level.

It would only be mounted for trips to the hills.

I called up ARB since they handle Kaymar stuff as in the spare tire Hi-Lift carrier, and they said Kaymar has no plans to build one for the FJC.

However...ARB has in the works a rear bumper for the FJ, as they shipped an FJ over to the land down under two weeks back.
I am sure some of you have heard this through the rumor mill before.
Well, the bumper will have a Hi-Lift mount in it, and probably a swing out gate for the tire also.

I am holding out for this new bumper.
It sounds like it is going to be sweet.

I've also heard that ARB is trying to get a rear bumper + tire carrier, roof rack, rock rails and a few other goodies in prototype form in order to have them at the upcoming SEMA show. Would be cool to see, but not holding my breath.

Here is something that might work for your spare mounted hi-lift. Drill a couple of holes and weld a couple of lug nut studs on the outer most plate to hold your hi-lift jack in place. You could even use locking lug nuts to secure the jack to the mount. You could probably get creative with the center locking bolt so your jack doesn't grow legs and walk away.

Here is a link to the item on OffroadRecovery.com.

Yeah, I bought this from the guys at ORU, and quickly found out that the FJ has a curved "Shoulder" bracket that comes out to add additional support to the spare tire. I figured out what kind of notch would have to be milled into the end plate, and they did the work for me for free. Really good guys.

I'll post some shots of it as soon as my wife gets back from Moab (yeah, she took it and took off).

4 year bump

So I did a search "hi lift / spare tire" and this came up, the only one.

Got a RTT and the only place for the hi lift is the spare tire. Is there anything new? I'm sure there is, just can't find the right thread. Thanks,

Gary
