Just spoke with Hanlon Auto. I hadn't heard anything and the suspense was killing me!

HG was slightly warped leading to the failure of the HG on cylinder #1. Great news is that the head and block are NOT cracked. Machine shop was able to clean up the head w/o issues. Valves, etc. etc. all look great. They're just waiting on new head bolts from Yota. They have all the other OEM parts ready to go and I should have her back late this week.

Awesome news man !

best case scenario. very nice...

happy for you!

(what does a "warped HG" mean, actually?)

You can say that a thousand times over! All I've been able to think about this past week was what I would do if the block or head were cracked!

F if I know. All I care about is that the machine shop made it a smooth flat surface again and all OEM parts are going back on her!

Nice, I had two cracks in my head so it was an obvious decision.

WOW Lucky You!!

You know, a fresh head gasket is the perfect time to supercharge ;-)

Ain't no money left in the coffers...are you offering up yours free of charge? :D

She's ready to be picked up, just won't get there today. It'll be two weeks tomorrow they've had her.

Power seems a little smoother, but other than that, no real difference felt driving home.

Here are front/back pics of the HG on cylinder #1. It's toast! You can see the arrow they drew in the upper left of the second pic, although the failure is obvious. Cylinders 2-5 look good and there's a beginning of deformation around #6, but not near what #1 is.

Same info I posted in the 80's section:

Interesting - haven't pulled the paperwork, but thought I'd been told that a redesigned gasket had been used. Between Powderpig and Andy saying that's an original design, they must have used an original.

Curiosity killed me so I pulled the paperwork. 5.4.04 - 126,105 miles - valve cover gasket p/n 11213-66021 gasket, cylinder (description on the paperwork) is what I was remembering. Price seems way to low for a complete head gasket job, even in 2004 - $365 parts and labor total at a dealer. Same thing or not? I don't know. I'd feel a hell of a lot better if this is the first HG and original design letting go at 202,000 miles and not a 2nd one.

Where's CDAN, Beno or anyone else for a conclusion on this original part number? Now I'm really curious! HG p/n just installed is 1115-66020.

EDIT - Pulled up the first googled Yota Parts site that had illustrations. Remember, I'm a one so just learning WTF the difference is here. Valve cover gasket is much higher on the engine block than the head gasket. Valve cover/valve cover gasket/cylinder head/head gasket/engine block(?) from top to bottom. Me thinks I've just learned something.

Would still love confirmation from someone that knows, but it looks like this is the first HG. I feel better now, even if the wallet is hurting.

Nice to see that your have your LC back together and ready for the next trail.

If all you paid back in 04 was $365 for parts and labor, it will without a doubt be the valve cover gasket and not the head gasket. I believe CDan sells a head gasket kit for close to or surpassing $300 bones. Then it makes more sense that your head gasket went out at the mileage it did, and not twice in its lifetime already.

How much dinero was the damage this time?

Way too much to admit in public (5 decent car payments or 10 small ones!), but if the truck will now go another 200K, well worth it.

Don't recall what I paid for the lift, but twice what I paid for the INTI and about 10 decent tires incl. tax, mounting and balancing out the door!

Glad you're back in action. That prior one was definately valve cover gasket. It's cheap (maybe $15) and easy to replace - I replaced mine after it failed in Death Valley and spewed oil all over everything.

Thx - yep, research and more knowledge about this beast now than 5 years ago! Feel stupid (ok - there's the opening guys) for thinking it was the second HG now!

They've totally messed up the wiring to all the rack lights, but are willing to make good this Friday and get it back right. They didn't even blink an eye when I called them this morning. Said they had a devil of a time even trying to figure it out to begin with.

Wish I could help, but it's the one big mod outside the lift that I did not do myself. Larry up at Dirty Parts did a very clean, professional install on all the rack lights. Shop did say they disconnected at the molex connectors, so it may just be a lot of trial and error. A least I can let them know which button turns on which lights! :hhmm:

While the bill hurts big time, I'm more relieved that it was the first time, and hopefully the last time for the life of this truck! It'll probably outlive me! :D Be nice when the :princess: comes here to part out the beast in 10-20 years guys!
