Hey everyone. Had at least $1,000 in tools stolen. Has anyone made a truck vault system?

So some some one ripped off my truck of tools today. Will deal with insurance tomarro and see what the deductible is.

I like to make a box system similar to the truck vault on truckvault.com I have a mig welder and will have a sheet metal company cut out the sheets to mig together.

Want to know if anyone has made a system for the fj60 wagon? What problems did you come up with? If it was made of wood, how much extra weight did it add to the truck? I imagine the truck-vault has some kind of frame on the front, and a middle divider for the drawers. Was also considering putting a cctv system on the truck in the event its ever broken into and record who would steep my tools.

thanks much.

sorry to read that. Bastards! (And all that time I thought that everybody in Canada is straight-laced...)

what kind of gauge are you planning to use?

Unless you have connections or live in a great place, I kind of doubt that most US police depts would pursue a tool snatcher based on CCTV evidence, may not be worth the trouble and expense to install it. Hopefully different in Canada. Or maybe you want to go find him yourself? If so, check out the story today about the teen and the cell phone recovery attempt... :(

Yea both locks passenger and hatch are screwed up. I just replaced the side window and purchased a 1/4 jet drive set. Still need to replace the ever important data/com tools so I can start working again. I was thinking of putting in a car alarm or...build one from a arduino kit, that can attach a sms cell phone board to it. Should anyone think of breaking in, I will be notified. But I think thbest thing is put in a cage with nearly impossible to break lock on it.
