Hesitation from 2 gear to 3rd gear

This is a vehicle that has been very well taken care of by a good friend who I bought it from a month ago. All regular work and repairs has been done by the local toyota dealership. I just had a tune up done a few weeks ago. The hesitation is on the acceleration. I plan on having a local land cruiser mechanic do the work as I have little time or experience with this stuff. I hope its something easy.

If it comes down to it would you guys suggest/recommend rebuilding the carb or replacing with a weber or non us carb and removing the smog?

hung out in the 60 section at all? Aisin's are fabulous carbs and a rebuilt one from JimC or Mark Algazy are worth their weight in gold. Aftermarket carbs are a cop out or a compromise at best, just a work around. It may look cheaper early on but the amount of work you'll put into one making it run right just isn't worth it. Then again, you may get lucky.

The first real engine mod I did on my Zuk was the weber carb, and then pulled all the smog stuff off. When it worked it was money, but as red stated it was alot of work to keep it "tuned". Conatantly cleaning the float bowl or tracking down vacum leaks around the seals... I'd definately go for his options if it was me. All in all fuel injection is the way to go :grinpimp:

spoken like a guy who has kept a '60 together, probably the best one to take your advice from.

I'm a :hillbilly::banana::banana::banana::wrench: at best after all my years of trial and error, and take my scaremongering with a healthy serving of salt while your at it.

bottom line do what you are most comfortable with, sounds like the truck is in good hands

I dropped it off tonight. I'm hoping for a fuel pump fix but if it does turn out to be a smog/carb issue I'll post up with the details and ask for more opinions.

I'm no pro. I think I may be blessed more than anything. 255K miles and still going. Planning for a future diesel swap (crossing my fingers that it isn't soon). I wish I knew what I know now before I bought my first cruiser.

amen to that.
