I like it, 'fraid to ask, how much?

$50k for the DWR version.

there is a local guy that rebuilds those. He has a fenced in holding area with a bunch of the old airstreams not the DWR version.

found the link...

I did a survey of the property adjacent to his shop. You had to wear sunglasses when looking at them they were so shinny.

there used to be a place called "Iowa Boys" that specialized in Airstreams- high dollar restorations and updates as well.

the "Bambi" and the "Bubble" Airstreams are my favs...

An avid outdoorsman, Airstream founder Wally Byam married a woman who had little interest in the "adventure" of sleeping on the ground. When he built his bride a tent on a Ford Model T chassis that he could tow behind the car, marital bliss was restored. The project gave Byam an idea for a travel trailer that moved like a "stream of air" and in 1936, America got its first look at an Airstream.

That's a new one on me. Not saying it isn't true but I just had never heard it before.

Wally started building trailers because he got a complaint about a poorly designed set of plans he was sent and he published in a DIY periodical he produced. He got several complaints and decided to fix the plans and designed the torpedo.

This is the torpedo and this trailer is still on the road. That gentleman built it from Wally's plans and his grandson still takes it Airstream events.

My wife and I are restoring a 1959 Airstream Caravanner. Its been an interesting project that involved separating the body from the sub structure to do frame repairs and replace the floor decking. I am about to finish the main work on the body and updating the electrical to modern standards (the single 15amp circuit wasn't going to cut it). Hopefully have it back on the road by end of summer. This coach belonged to my Father-in-law so it has a lot of family history It will be modern in its wiring and systems but it will be restored to its 1959 appearance.

Dr. H.W. Holman and wife Thelma with the oldest existing Airstream.

Look at the "base camp". http://www.airstream.com/index.html
