Anyone know of some trails in the Hemet lake, Idyllwild area?
The family and I are heading up there this weekend, (8/8) staying at Hurkey Creek campground.

We have been up Thomas Mtn. as far as the campground but that's it.
Would like to find some other trails in the area.

Or if anyone wants to go for a ride.....
Thanks in advance
Scott

Weather shows mid-80's for the weekend.

You can go up to Santa Rosa peak and there are decent some trails out of Hemet lake that go up to the top of Thomas Mountain.

Ohh and it is nice up there- it is at 4,500 feet elevation. if you are a Mt. Biker- Hurkey creek has some great riding with fun downhills.

Is Santa Rosa the same as Toro Peak?
We've been on Thomas Mtn. before, looking for other options as well.

We haven't been biking for several years, but I understand they have a 24 hour race there each year.

El Toro and Santa Rosa are on the same ridge. Yes, Hurkey creek host's two 24 hour Mt. Bike races - the next one is coming up in September. I ride on a team made up of coworkers from our San Diego, Temecula, and Los Angeles offices- it is a lot of fun. The trail is 9 miles long and has two killer downhill sections that are a blast. Average times to do the loop are 1 1/2 to 2 hours if you stop a few times to enjoy the scenery. Faster riders will do it closer to 1 hour.

No matter what you do - the campground is nice and you have lots options. Idylwild is always a nice visit- if you are into hiking- go up to Humber park and watch the climbers on Lily rock.

Back from camping and thought I'd share a few pics.
We hit some trails in the area, not much more than fire roads but still fun to get out for a few days.
1. Idyllwild
2. Letting the Killer dog stretch her legs
3. Poser shot

We checked Mapquest and found lots of forest roads in the area.
I imagine most would be like what we ran across, nothing too difficult.
For just getting away for the weekend, it was a good time and offered enough to keep it interesting.
